Select “Password Reset” on the left.

Find the device in the list, and verify it has the XML reset option under “Support”.

Click the Reset button on the right

Find the device you want to upgrade in the list and click on the Folder icon next to it under the Upgrade File Path column

4. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

5. Verify the file path is listed next to the device in the list.
Then click on the Upgrade icon to the right of the device in the Operate column

6. Click on OK

7. The progress bar will fill up as the device is upgraded

8. Once the device has been successfully upgraded you will see a Green Check Mark next to it in the list

Batch Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the devices you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for those devices in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the devices you want to upgrade in the list and check the boxes next to them. (Make sure all devices you check require the same firmware.)
Then click on Batch Upgrade at the top

4. Click on OK

5. Click on Browse

6. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.

Export Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon with the two green arrows.

8. A prompt will pop up asking, “Export template from device?” click, “OK”

9. Locate the device you want to export the configuration of in the device list, and left click on it.

At this point ConfigTool crashed. I relaunched ConfigTool, and get, “Export Template Failed”

14. A prompt will pop up asking where you would like to save the file. Select where you would like to save the file, and click, “OK”

Import Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon without the two green arrows.

8. A window will pop up, click, “Browse” and locate the Device Template file you backed up in the previous instructions.

• IP address: 192.168.1.20

7. Open Reset Tool by clicking Reset Tool. jar

8. The Status will show “Ready”

9. With the Reset Tool open on the computer, reboot the wireless bridge (power off/on). The Reset Tool will scan for the wireless bridge automatically

10. Click “Reset” to begin the reset process

11. The Reset Tool will attempt to connect to the device

12. The Enter PIN code prompt will appear. The PIN code will be the last 4 numbers of the S/N (serial number) which can be found on the actual device.

13. At the Enter PIN code prompt, enter the last 4 numbers of the Serial Number for the device then click Enter

Note: You must finish all steps of the Reset function within 60s or you have to reboot the device and attempt again.

14. After entering the PIN code the wireless bridge will be reset to factory default settings

Install Server Software

1.Download and run the Install package for DSS Pro

Check the box to agree to the Software agreement.

2. Select Main Server when you first install

If you are installing the server in a distributed network, select Sub Server

DSS Sub Server Installation

This guide will show how to install and setup a DSS Pro Sub Server.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Download and run the installer package for DSS Pro.
Check the box to agree to the Software License Agreement and then click on Next

2. Select the option for Sub under “Select server type”.
Then click on Next

3. Choose the installation path or leave it as default.
Then click on Install

4. Wait as the software is installed

5. When the installation is complete, click on Run

6. After the DSS Pro software starts up, check on the box next to the network card you want to use for the Sub Server to communicate with the Main Server and the rest of the network.
Then click on Next Step

7. Enter the local IP address of the DSS Pro Main Server that is already running in the Center IP field.
Then enter the HTTPS port of the DSS Pro Main Server in the HTTPS Visiting Port field.
And click on Finish

8. Wait for all the Sub Server’s services to start up.
It will says “Running” at the top right when they have all started

9. Log into the Client of the DSS Pro Main Server and click on the Setting icon on the left

10. Select System Deployment at the bottom

11. You should see the Sub Server’s IP address listed with “Sub Server” under “Type”.
Enable the slider next to it under “Operation”

12. The DSS Pro Sub Server’s services will all restart.
Once all the services are running again, you should see “Running” under Server Status

13. Click on the Gear icon to the right of the Sub Server

Click on the drop-down below “Server Type” and either choose Sub Server to keep it as a standard Sub Server that only helps distribute the load from connected devices, or select Standby Server so that the Standby Server takes over if another Sub Server goes down. (Which requires another Sub Server to be setup in addition to the Standby Server.)
Then click on OK

15. Click on Allocate Resources at the top

16. Drag an added device from the list on the left to either the Main Server or Sub Server to choose which server manages that device’s resources.
Repeat this process for all devices in the list.
Alternatively you can select Auto Allocation and the system will automatically choose which server manages each device’s resources.
When you are done, click OK

Troubleshooting Tips

In the event that your device added but can’t see any cameras added to the software, please follow this following steps.

1. Click on the Edit button on your device.

2. Go to Video Channels. And then click on Get Info.

You can also use the dropdown box under Features to manually select the device features

3. The software will refresh the connection to the device and retrieve the camera channels that added to recorder. Once populated, click OK.

Import Device

For videos stored on the DSS server you can configure video retention period. When the storage space runs out, new recorded videos will overwrite the oldest videos automatically.

5. Under “Device Category” click on the drop-down and select ANPR

6. Enter the information for connecting to the camera.
(In this case IP Address was selected as the Add Mode.)

7. Enter a name for the camera under “Device Name”.
Then click on the drop-down below “Device Type” and select Access ANPR Camera

3. Select the time period from the timeline. It will prompt user to enter the device password.

4. Enter the date and time you world like to download, and you can also choose the video format by clicking on the Transcode. By default the format will be .dav.

5. Your download will begin.

6. You can modify the storage path through the local settings.

1. Open the DSS Agile 8 app on your mobile device.
Select Agree to accept the Software License Agreement and Privacy Policy

– Port (The HTTPS Client Login Port)

Step by Step Instructions

1.Log into DSS and select [License].

2. Select [Activate Offline].

3. Insert the 16-digit License Key. If you have multiple License Keys, you can add them all together.

After adding all the License Keys, click on [Export]

4. DSS will then generate a LicenseActiveFile.zip.

Copy this file to another PC which has public Internet access.

5. Click on the blue link to go to DSS License Management Page

6. Select [DSS]

7. Select [Activate License]

8. Upload the LicenseActiveFile.zip.

Dahua DSS License Management System will check the file.

If the License is valid, it will activate it for you.

9. Once the License is activated, you will be requested to download a LicenseDat.zip.

10. Copy the LicenseDat.zip back to the PC that has DSS Client.

Click on [Import] and upload the LicenseDat.zip. Then DSS will be activated successfully.

!Note: LicenseActiveFile.zip and LicenseDat.zip are correlated. You cannot use the LicenseDat.zip on another PC rather than the one from which you extract the corresponding LicenseActiveFile.zip.

DSS/V8/DSS Express/Instruction/License Dectivation (Online)

Description

This guide will show how to deactivate the DSS Pro/Express license.

! Note: this guide is for DSS Servers connected to the Internet.

6. Click on [Upload] and select the LicenseDeactivateFile.zip.

DSS License Management Portal will verity the file and deactivate the License Key for you.

7. Now, you can use the License Key on a new installation.

• This document shows how to update from DSS V8.0.4 to DSS V8.1
• Please note that the following instructions only apply to DSS Baseline. If you are using a customized version of DSS, that will be a case-by-case discussion if you want the update. Please consult Tech Support for more information
• Only Baseline DSS Express and DSS Professional can be upgraded in this way
• Because DSS is Server-client structure, you need to upgrade DSS Server before upgrading DSS Client

Step by Step Instructions

Part 0: Check the Current DSS Version

Log into DSS Client and select [About]

Here you can see the DSS Server Version. Make sure the Installation Package is later than this version.

Part 1: Back up the current system Database – this will prevent data loss in case of update failure

1. Go to the Home menu of DSS – Select [Backup and Restore]

2. Click on the folder icon to select the directory where you want to save the backup file. Then, click on [Backup Now]

3. Insert the Login Password of DSS Client and Encryption Password twice.

In the end, Click on OK and DSS will export the Backup File automatically.

4. When DSS finishes exporting the Backup File, you will receive a prompt message saying Backup successful

Part 2: Upgrade DSS Server

5. Go to DSS Service Manager and click on [Stop All] to temporarily pause DSS Services.

6. Click on [OK] to continue

7. Make sure DSS Services are stopped

8. Double click to run the newer version of DSS Installation Package

9. DSS Package will automatically detect the older version and overwrite the current directory. Click on [OK] to continue

10. Select [Agree] and click on [Next]

11. As you can see, you cannot manually change the installation path, because DSS Installation Package will automatically detect and overwrite the existing directory of DSS Server

12. Click on Install and wait for the Upgrade to complete

13. Click on [Run] and wait for DSS Services to restart

!Note: It may take some time for SMC Service to start, depending on the hardware of the Server

Part 3: Upgrade DSS Client

14. Run DSS Client as usual, and log in.

15. Then DSS Client will tell you to do an Update. Click on [Update Now]

16. DSS Client will automatically download the newer package

17. Then the upgrade will start. DSS Client Installation Package will detect the older version of DSS Client and overwrite it. Click on [OK] to continue

18. Select [Agree] and [Next]

19. As you can see, DSS Client Installation Package detects the existing DSS Client Directory and is ready to overwrite it

20. Click on [Install] and wait for the update to complete

21. In the end, click on run, log in and use DSS as usual.

22. You can go to [About] to check the current version of DSS

DSS/V8/DSS Express/Instruction/DSS Database Backup Restore

Cautions and Disclaimers

You can backup DSS Database before reinstalling DSS on another server. When the installation is complete, you can use the Database backup file to restore DSS configurations, which include Device information, Storage Plan, Event and User.

DSS Database Backup File can only be used for a DSS Installation Package of the same version.

For example, if you have backed up DSS Database from DSS V8.0.4, then this Database backup file can only be used on DSS V8.0.4. If you want to upgrade to DSS V8.1, you should install V8.0.4 first, restore DSS Database and then perform the upgrade to DSS V8.1.

Step by Step Instructions

Part 1: backup DSS Database

1. Log into DSS Client and select [Backup and Restore]

2. Click on the folder icon to select the directory where you want to save the Database backup file

3. Click on [Backup Now]

4. Insert DSS Log in Password and the password to encrypt DSS Database Backup File

5. Wait for DSS to complete the backup

6. There will be a prompt when backup is complete

7. In the directory you have chosen, there will be a dbk file. Keep this file in a safe place.

Part 2: Restore DSS Database

8. Log into DSS Client and select [Backup and Restore]

9. Select [Restore]

10. Click on the folder icon and select the Database Backup File that you want to use

11. Click on [Restore Now]

12. Insert DSS Login Password and the Encryption Password for the Database Backup File. Then click on [OK]

13. Wait for DSS to complete the restore

14. When the restore is complete, there will be a prompt saying that DSS will restart itself

15. Rest assured. DSS needs some time to restart itself

16. In DSS Service Management Center, you may notice that DSS is starting

17. When DSS starts to run as normal, the restore process is complete. Now your Database is restored.

Reset Dahua Device Password Using ConfigTool

Description

These instructions will show how to reset the password of a Dahua device using ConfigTool on a local computer

Prerequisites

• Dahua IP camera, connected to network
• Local computer , with ConfigTool installed

Step by Step Instructions

1. Open ConfigTool

Select “Password Reset” on the left.

Find the device in the list, and verify it has the XML reset option under “Support”.

Click the Reset button on the right

2. Click Agree

3. Select the Reset Mode drop-down and then select XML File

4. Click OK to confirm XML password reset method

5. The default location the XML file will be saved to is displayed. Click Browse Path to select a new location. Click Next

6. The ExportFile XML file will be created. Click OK to continue

7. This file will be used in the password reset process. Contact Dahua technical support via one of the methods HERE for the result file. Once you recieve the Result file, select Open and choose the file on your file system. Click Next

8. If the Result file is accepted, it will allow you to set the new password. Input a new password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields. Click Finish

9. If the password is successfully reset, you will see a Green Check Mark next to the camera in the list

Dahua Toolbox Dahua Config Tool Locate Dahua Device

Description

• How to locate and identify Dahua devices on LAN

Prerequisites

•  Dahua Toolbox installed
• Windows PC.

1. With the Dahua Tool box being already installed onto your PC, from the Toolbox home menu select install/open “ConfigTool”.

3. To view the device live click on the IE (Internet Explorer) icon.

Firmware Upgrade via ConfigTool

Description

This page will show you how to upgrade the firmware of your Dahua device via ConfigTool

Note: All devices should be “Factory Reset” once the firmware update is complete.

Prerequisites

• Dahua device(s) with network connection(s)
• ConfigTool installed on a local computer
• Firmware file for device(s) downloaded to computer – Firmware by Device

Step by Step Instructions

Single Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the device you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for that device in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the device you want to upgrade in the list and click on the Folder icon next to it under the Upgrade File Path column

4. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

5. Verify the file path is listed next to the device in the list.
Then click on the Upgrade icon to the right of the device in the Operate column

6. Click on OK

7. The progress bar will fill up as the device is upgraded

8. Once the device has been successfully upgraded you will see a Green Check Mark next to it in the list

Batch Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the devices you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for those devices in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the devices you want to upgrade in the list and check the boxes next to them. (Make sure all devices you check require the same firmware.)
Then click on Batch Upgrade at the top

4. Click on OK

5. Click on Browse

6. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.

ConfigTool Template Setup

Description

You can create and apply the templates.

• Creating the template: Back up or save the video and encoding parameters for the device.
• Applying the template: Restore or batch configuring the video and encoding parameters for the device.

These instructions do not copy the network settings or email notifications.

Template Import/Export will work only between identical model devices

Step by Step Instructions

Export Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon with the two green arrows.

8. A prompt will pop up asking, “Export template from device?” click, “OK”

9. Locate the device you want to export the configuration of in the device list, and left click on it.

10. Click, “Export”

11. A prompt will pop up asking, “Export template from (IP Address of Device Selected), continue? Click, “OK”

12. Input a name into “Template Name”

13. Click, “Save as”

At this point ConfigTool crashed. I relaunched ConfigTool, and get, “Export Template Failed”

14. A prompt will pop up asking where you would like to save the file. Select where you would like to save the file, and click, “OK”

Import Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon without the two green arrows.

8. A window will pop up, click, “Browse” and locate the Device Template file you backed up in the previous instructions.

9. Click on the Device Template file, then click, “Open”

10. Click, “OK”

11. The template settings should load and display in ConfigTool. Verify that all the settings are correct.

12. Click, “Template Application”

13. A window will pop up stating, “The file exists, do you want to overwrite it?” select, “OK”

14. Expand the dropdown box on the right hand side to list all the devices.

15. Check the box next to the device you wish to apply the template.

16. Click, “OK”

17. A window will pop up stating, “Configure 1 device(s) using template “C:/ProgramFiles/Toolsbox/Template_Name.xml” click, “OK”

A green check mark will confirm a successful import

NOTE: A yellow exclamation icon will display next to a device when there is an issue with the import.

Click the icon to obtain more details about which setting(s) were not successfully imported
