How to connect an IP camera to a Hikvision NVR 5, Adding cameras to your Network Video Recorder (NVR) is a crucial step in any CCTV setup. Not only does it allow you to store and access all your camera recordings in one place, but it also simplifies camera configuration. In this simple step-by-step guide, we’ll show you how to add cameras to a Hikvision NVR using the new NVR 5 web interface.

Why add cameras to an NVR?

• Centralised storage: Storing all recordings on the NVR ensures easy access and management.

• Simple and efficient configuration: With cameras connected to the NVR, you can configure settings from a single interface.

• Streamlined viewing: View your camera feeds and adjust the settings conveniently.

Before you start…

Before anything, to be able to add your IP cameras, you need to make sure that:
.

• Each camera is connected via a network cable to a POE switch that’s connected to your local network, or to the POE ports on the NVR.

• Each camera is connected to a power source (normally a POE port on the NVR or a switch) – if you are not using POE, you will need to power the camera via its optional 12V barrel connector.

• All cameras to be added are ONVIF compliant.

How to add your cameras using the V5 GUI…

Step 1:

Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your NVR in the address bar. If you are not sure what this is, use the SADP tool to find it.

Step 3:

Go to: Device Access > Device Configuration > PoE Settings

If you are connecting your camera via the Plug-and-Play method, then make sure that Network Camera Plug-and-Play is enabled on the POE port you will be connecting the camera to on this page.

For any camera with a cable run under 100m, leave the Network Cable Distance as Short Distance.

If you are connecting your camera manually by IP address, disable the Network Camera Plug-and-Play option for the channel that you plan to add the camera to.

Step 4:

Go to: Device Access > Device > Video Device

For any Plug-and-Play camera, just make sure that it is in its inactive default state and then connect it to the port you reserved in step 3. After 20 seconds or so, the camera Status should turn to Connecting and then Online (you may need to click on Refresh to see this).

For Manually added cameras, if you can see the camera in the List of Online Devices section, then just tick the box for the camera and then click + Add to Device List, which will then automatically add it to one of the channels you disabled Plug-and-Play on in the last step.

Alternatively…

Click on +Add at the top of the page and fill out the fields as follows:

IP Address: Enter the IP address of your camera, using the ‘Test’ button to verify there is a camera at that address.

Device Name: This can be anything you like, as it is the name the camera will show with on your NVR.

Protocol: Select the camera’s manufacturer from this list, or failing that, use the ONVIF protocol (your camera will need to have ONVIF enabled for this to work).

Management Port: Enter the Server port set on the camera, which you can find in the SADP tool or in Network>Basic Settings>Port in the camera’s web browser interface. If you haven’t changed this, it is usually 8000 by default.

User Name: “admin” or the username of any other users set up on that camera.

Password: The password set with that user on the camera – if this is the same as the ‘Default Activation Password‘ you have set on the NVR, then you can tick this box instead.

Transfer Protocol: ‘Auto’ is normally best.

When these are completed, click OK.

Your camera should then appear in the list of devices with an assigned channel, and an Online status, meaning it has been successfully added.

Extra tips…

• To rename your channels, so you can easily identify each camera within the NVR, you will need to go to Device Access > Device Configuration > Device Parameter > OSD Configuration. Then, select your camera from the Channel dropdown and enter your chosen name for it beside Channel Name.

• One useful feature with the new V5 NVR firmware is that you no longer need to use the Virtual Host feature. Instead, to access the configuration menus on the cameras now for doing things like updating the firmware, accessing advanced image settings, and hard resetting the cameras, you just need to use the Go button (a monitor with an arrow on it) in the Operation column.

How do I reset my Hikvision device to factory settings?

In some cases, you’ll need to reset your Hikvision device to its inactive factory state. This could be if you’re passing the system on to somebody else; if you’ve forgotten your password; or simply if something has gone wrong during the configuration, meaning you need to start afresh.

There are a couple of ways of doing this, the method you’ll use depends on whether you have a password to log into the device.

Please see the simple steps for doing each below:

Via the device’s backend in a web browser or iVMS-4200:

If you are able to log into your device’s configuration menu in iVMS-4200 or the web browser interface, then the easiest way to reset it is on the Upgrade & Maintenance page here. The steps below show you how to find this page in both interfaces.

Step 1:

iVMS-4200:

Open iVMS-4200 and find your device in the device list on the Maintenance and Management page by going to:

Maintenance and Management > Device Management > Device

Then, looking to the Operation column, open up the Basic settings menu by clicking on the small configuration cog icon for your device.

Go to step 2 below.

In a web browser:

Browse for the device’s IP in the address bar, and then log in to the device using the username and password you gave when first setting it up.

Once logged in, click on the Configuration tab at the top of the page.

Step 2:

In both iVMS-4200 and a web browser:

When on the device’s Configuration page, go to:

System > Maintenance > Upgrade & Maintenance

Click the Default option to reset the device back to its inactive factory state.

There are a couple of other useful options here:

Reboot – allows you to remotely force the device to power cycle.

Restore – will wipe any settings and information on the device, excluding the network settings. This is a less comprehensive reset than the Default option.

You will see a popup window asking you to confirm that you want to reset the device. Wait while it resets and reboots, the popup will disappear when this is done.

That’s it! If you want to check that the reset was successful, then open the SADP tool and check that it shows the Status of your device as Inactive.

Factory reset by using the device’s pushbutton:

On the majority of Hikvision’s newer camera models, there will be a pushbutton on the camera which will allow to carry out a hard reset without needing to log into it. This is most useful when you have forgotten your password, as it allows you to set a new password on the camera while avoiding much of the faff involved in doing this through the SADP tool.

Step 1:

Find the pushbutton, which is usually found beside the microSD card slot, so you’ll need to remove the microSD card cover by using a Torx screwdriver. The button is normally grey and rectangular, like the one circled below:

Step 2:

Now that you’ve located the reset button, you’ll need to follow the steps below carefully:

Disconnect the camera’s power supply.
Press the reset button and keep it held down.
Restore the power supply while continuing to hold down the button.
Keep the button pressed for a further 10 seconds.
Release the button and wait for the camera to reboot.

You should hear the camera’s IR cut filter click and the red IR LEDs illuminate briefly when the camera powers up again after resetting.

If the camera is connected to your local network, you can check that its status is showing as Inactive in the tool to check that the reset was successful.

By downloading the firmware from this web page you are agreeing to Hikvision’s Software User License Agreement. Please be aware that Hikvision products are region-specific and regionally supported. If you have purchased your Hikvision products from an online source or unauthorized distributor, they may not be compatible with the North American region’s firmware and are considered to be “gray market” product. If your camera has “CH” in the serial number, you are most likely using a “gray market” product.

Updating the firmware from this site can lead to several complications in those cameras, up to and including camera failure. Restoring a “gray market” product to its original condition is a factory process and will result in a Chinese interface. As Hikvision warranty is void in this case, you must rely on the dealer for any service, support, and warranty of the “gray market” product. Upgrade Device Firmware

For a device added via IP/Domain, its new version can be detected by the Mobile Client. Once detected, you can upgrade the device to its latest version.

1.Enter the Device Information page.

• On the device list page, if the page is in the list mode, swipe the device name to the left and tap .

• On the device list page, If the page is in thumbnail mode, tap the device name or tap .

• On the Live View page. Tap and then tap Settings.

Note:

For details about how to enter the Live View page, see Start and Stop Live View.

2.Tap > Device Version to enter the Device Version page.

3.Tap Upgrade and then tap UPGRADE on the pop-up window.

The Mobile Client will download the upgrade file first and then start upgrading the device.

Note:

You can also enable the Mobile Client to automatically download the upgrade file in Wi-Fi networks once a new device version is detected. For details, see Auto-Download Upgrade File.

Updating Hikvision IP Camera Firmware

To upgrade the firmware of a Hikvision IP camera, please follow the steps below:

1.Locate the appropriate firmware by clicking this link

2.Click on the firmware, then click download.

3.Agree to the license terms and conditions when prompted.

4.Locate the downloaded firmware file (this typically will be in the default download folder, unless prompted for a download location, then choose Desktop) and extract it by right-clicking on the file and selecting extract all or unzip. When prompted for an extract location, choose Desktop to extract the final file to. A file labeled DIGICAP will appear on the desktop.

5.After the file is extracted, log into the camera using Internet Explorer or Firefox web browsers. If prompted to install the plugin (or to allow the plugin to run), follow the prompt to proceed with the upgrade procedure.

6.Log into the camera using the administrator username and password, then go to the Configuration tab. In this tab, go to Basic Configuration then System, and then click on the Maintenance tab.

7.On the bottom of the page under Remote Upgrade, press the Browse button to locate and choose the firmware file, which was previously saved on the Desktop. After selecting the file, click Open, then click Upgrade.

8.The camera will display a prompt that a reboot is necessary to complete the upgrade. Click OK. The camera will reboot when the firmware is successfully upgraded.

Upgrading Hikvision DVR/NVR Firmware

To upgrade the firmware of a Hikvision DVR or NVR, please follow the steps below:

1.Insert a USB flash drive into the computer’s USB port (Please note that the USB flash drive does not need to be empty; it may contain other files and documents).

2.Locate the appropriate firmware by clicking this link

3.Click on the firmware, then click download.

4.Agree to the license terms and conditions when prompted.

5.Locate the downloaded firmware file (this typically will be in the default download folder, unless prompted for a download location, then choose Desktop) and extract it by right-clicking on the file and selecting extract all or unzip. When prompted for an extract location, choose the USB flash drive (typically labeled by letters E, F and so on) to extract the final file to. A file labeled DIGICAP will appear in the USB flash drive.

6.After the firmware has been extracted (unzipped), remove the USB flash drive from the computer and insert it into one of the available USB ports on the DVR/NVR unit.

7.On the DVR/NVR, go to the Main Menu, and then go to Maintenance.

8.From the sub-menus on the left click Upgrade. This will display the content of the USB flash drive.

9.Choose the DIGICAP file and press Upgrade.

10.An information window will pop up prompting that the unit will reboot after the upgrade is complete. Click YES.

11.To verify that the firmware has been upgraded, after the DVR/NVR is rebooted, go to the Main Menu, and then go to System Information. The current firmware version will be displayed.

IF YOU BOUGHT EQUIPMENT FROM US:

You will need to contact us if you can’t find your camera listed or if you require firmware for your NVR / DVR.
You will need to also provide the full serial number of the device as well as your current firmware.
This is to ensure upgrades are done properly. In some instances middlle firmware is required before upgrading to the latest version.

We do not recommend doing intercom firmware upgrades. Please check with us if there is any doubt.

How do I update Hikvision firmware remotely for my TetherX installation?

If your system was installed by one of our security installation partners please contact them to update your cameras. If you would like to update your Hikvision devices yourself please follow the guide below.

1.Download the latest Hikvision firmware by visiting the Hikvision Downloads Page

2.Extract the firmware archive, it should contain the file: digicap.dav

3.Create a tunnel into your Hikvision device.

How to create a tunnel?

4.Login to your Hikvision device and navigate to “Configuration” then “Maintenance”.

5.At the bottom of the page under the ‘Upgrade’ header, press on “Browse”

6.Use the file navigator window that pops up to select the digicap.dav file you downloaded earlier

7.Click on ‘Upgrade’

The actual upgrade will take up to 10 minutes and the device will automatically reboot at the end of the upgrade process.

Latest XMEYE firmware 2024, XMEye is video monitoring software for IPC and DVR. With cloud technology, easy log in by the device’s serial number to show the live view monitoring video to Android phone and do operation accordingly.

How to Upgrade the firmware on DVR/NVR System?

This FAQ is for DVR/NVR, not for the camera.

There are 2 methods to upgrade the firmware of DVR/NVR. We suggest you use method 1. Please contact technical support to get an upgrading file first.

Here you can check the system’s current firmware build date. After upgrading, you can check if the build date changed.

Method 1

1. Copy the firmware file to a USB disk.

2. Insert USB disk to the USB port of DVR.

3. Go to the menu to upgrade.

Method 2

1. Connect your DVR/NVR to a router with a network cable.

2. Use a computer which also connected to the same router as DVR/NVR is connected to install upgrading software.

3. Run the software to upgrade.

Client Downloading and Installation

Please visit https://xmeye.org/xmeye-for-pc/ to download and install the VMS Client following the setup wizard.

Add the DVR system to the Client

Option 1: Add the DVR system automatically

Please make sure the DVR system and your PC are connected with the same router.

Step 1:

Please log in to the client with the default User Name (admin) and Password (admin).

Step 2:

Click OK to add the DVR system automatically.

Step 3:

Tap YES on the pop-up window of “This operation may modify the device’s IP address, whether to continue?”

Step 4:

The DVR you added will be listed on the interface of Device Manager after 10s searching.

Invalid Password:

The VMS Client cannot load the password of the DVR system automatically, you need to modify it by clicking .

Connected:

The DVR system is ready to use.

Offline:

Please check if the DVR system and PC are connected to the same router.

Timeout:

Network may be disconnected, please click to refresh.

Option 2 : Add the DVR system manually

Step 1:

Click Manual Add at the lower left corner on the interface of Device Manager.

Step 2:

Change the Login Type from IP to CloudID and enter the required information on the interface of Add Device.

Device Name:

Set a name for the DVR.

CLOUD ID:

Also called Serial Number. You can get it from Startup Wizard or by accessing System > Version.

Password:

Enter the password you set for the DVR system.

Live Video

Please click Home > Live View to view the live videos from all channels.

• Click to select a screen (the selected one will be marked with the white border), then double click to select one channel under the list of Hiseeu, the live video from the channel will be displayed on the selected screen.

• For example, select Screen 1 and CAM02, the live video from CAM02 will be displayed on Screen 1.

• Double click on one screen to show the channel in full-screen mode, double click again to exit full-screen mode.

Video Recording

You can go to Home > OPERATION > Record Settings to set the disk in which the video will be saved for VMS Client.

Please go to Home > ADVANCE > Record Plan to set the detailed record plan.

Notes:

1.You need always log in to VMS Client for saving the videos into the Disk of your PC.

2.Select D:/ to save the videos in case of insufficient disk space and abnormal situation of your PC.

3.The disk of PC is not designed for surveillance need and long-time recording may cause damage to your disk.

4.If using VMS Client to record videos is inevitable, it’s advised to use the dedicated server and hard disk for surveillance.

Video Playback

Click Home > Playback to check all the videos recorded.

Check the box before the channel(s) you prefer, select Type of the video, select the Begin and End time, then click Search to list the filtered videos.

Double click on the selected video files to play the video or select one video file, then click button to play the video.

Video Downloading(Backup)

Stay on the interface of Video Playback, click to download the selected video, while click to download the video fragment by time period in this video file. The file you downloaded will be saved to the default path on the PC.

You can go to Home > SETTINGS > Systems Config to modify the path.

The format of the file you downloaded is H264 and the file is encrypted. It only can be played by the exclusive media player and you can download it from here

My smartphone is showing “offline” or “connect close” in the IVSEC X mobile app?

When adding your Recorder or cameras to the IVSEC X mobile app if a message says “Offline” or the device status is showing “Connect close” please check the following:

1) Check that the QR code, username and password details have been entered correctly into the IVSEC X app

A. Connect HDMI LCD and USB mouse to IVSEC Recorder

B. Click on the 4-square / arrow icon on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen

C. Check the name shown in Current user:

Note: The default user is admin but this may have been modified by the installer

D. Open the IVSEC X app on your phone

E. Press the “Human” icon of the top left-hand corner of the app

F. Press “Device List’

G. Press the square icon with a pencil mark

H. Check the IP Address/ID is the same as the QR code located on top of the IVSEC recorder

I. HTTP Port / Client Port

• To connect to an IVSEC Recorder use port 9000 or 80

• To connect to an IVSEC Camera that does not have a recorder installed use port 6000 or 80

J. Check the username is the same name as per point C (this is case sensitive)

K. Enter the correct password

L. Press Save or Apply

2) Check for Network Connectivity

A. Check that an ethernet cable is connected to the LAN port of your modem

B. Check that the other end of the ethernet cable is connected to the LAN/WAN port of the IVSEC Recorder

C. Check that the Green and Yellow LEDs light up after connecting the cable.

NOTE: If the LEDS do not light up then the IVSEC X app will not work. Try replacing the ethernet cable, if still no LEDS light up contact your installer

D. Connect an LCD and USB mouse to the recorder and check the “connect status” icon that appears on the bottom right hand corner of the taskbar (when LCD is connected to recorder). Ensure that the icon has a green tick as shown in below image

3) Ensure you have the latest version of IVSEC X app installed on your phone. Check that your Android or Apple device has the latest software/firmware and security updates installed. Try un-installing, re-installing the app and add the device again

4) Power your modem and IVSEC Recorder off for 30 seconds. Power back on and wait 5 minutes for the internet connection to come back online.

5) If you are running a VPN app on your smartphone disable the app and try the IVSEC X app again.

Examples of VPN providers include Surfshark, NordVPN, Norton’s VPN.

6) Check the IVSEC Recorder substream settings

A. Using LCD and mouse connected to NVR go to setup – Record – Encode Check your NVR substream settings- “Substream” tab

Resolution: 640 x 480

Bitrate: 512kbps

B. Click Apply on bottom right corner

7) Some older Samsung phones running Android 11 on the Telstra network may be unable to stream live view or the cameras will show as offline while connected to mobile data (4G/5G). The issue has been identified on the Telstra network where an Android update causes the APN to select IPv6 only. Click here for APN re-configuration (Applies to Telstra mobile customers only running Android)

8) Some Telstra NBN modem / routers may restrict access to cameras (firmware issue on the router). The cameras may be slow to appear or show as offline. Check the model number listed on the bottom of your Telstra router. Click on the documentation below which details the steps to configure port forwarding as a workaround to access your cameras

9) Connect to your wifi and perform a speed test – https://www.speedtest.net/

Click the GO button. If your upload speed result is 3Mbps or less, you should contact your Internet Provider to test your connection

4. What does “Max User Playback” mean?

If you see “Max User Playback” when trying to playback footage in the app it means someone else is currently accessing playback either via the NVR or through the app. Restarting the NVR will clear this message.

The maximum number of channels (cameras) that can record to one hard drive is 16. If your recorder is compatible with disk grouping (e.g. NR316XB, NR316XC, NR532XA, NR564XA, NR564EXA and NR564EXB) you will need to configure disk grouping and ensure your cameras are recording. If you are using an NVR that is capable of 64 channels and have 64 cameras installed, you will need to install a minimum of 4 hard drives

With various passwords to remember, sometimes we simply just forget how to log in to our devices. It may be something easy, but at times we just hit a blank which can be totally understandable. Luckily there are ways to regain access.

Method 1 – Firmware Pre 2017 – No Forgot Password Option

If you have an older recorder that was purchased pre-2017 and has not had a firmware update over the last couple of years, you will need to give IC Plus Support your device details who will in turn will provide you a password reset method. The easiest visual indication to find out if you have an older firmware is to see if you have an option for “Forgot Password” on the login screen, if not then you will need to call us. For this method it is advised to have a monitor and mouse attached to your DVR, regardless of whether you view it from a software VMS on your computer or from your mobile device.

Ensure that you take note of the time and date that is displayed on the recorders’ menu as this will be asked by the support agent. You may also be asked for the device model & serial number. This can usually be found on the underside or side of the DVR.

Method 2 – Firmware Post 2017 – Forgot Password Option

Later firmware versions from March 2017 onwards, utilize a “Forgot Password” procedure embedded within the recorders’ local GUI.

• You will need access to the web browser or local interface of the recorder

• DMSS Mobile application

1. There may have been a system unlock pattern configured that you cannot remember, clicking “Forgot Unlock Pattern” will take you to the standard password login screen. You may be able to gain access with a known password other than the pattern itself.

2. If you cannot remember the password, you can click on the “Forgot Password” option. You will be shown some terms and conditions with regards to the service collecting some information in order to reset your password.

3. If an email address has not been associated with your Admin account, you will be prompted to insert an email address to recover your password. Make sure not to make any mistakes before proceeding (Do not worry if your recorder is not connected to the internet at this point, but ensure you insert an email address that you have access to.)

4. A QR Code will be displayed onscreen.

5. Open the DMSS mobile application. On the Home page, select Me in the bottom right, Tool Manager, then lastly Password Resetting. Agree to prompt requesting permssion to access your phones camera.

6. Scan the QR code. You should receive a message on screen to say it has been successful. Wait a few minutes, then check your email.

7. The code will be the digits that follows the (SN:123456) part of the email.

8. Enter this code at the bottom of the forgot password interface and click next.

9. You will then be prompted to insert a new password for the recorder. Insert and confirm the password. Now you will be able to use your new password to access the recorder.

*Pro Tip – if you are prompted to sync the password to the remote devices (connected ip cameras), say yes or you may lose connectivity to connected cameras and possibly may need to change reset the camera passwords.

Tips for Passwords

• On first startup, follow the device Startup Wizard and do not skip pass the section relating to email address and Security questions. Both of these will save you a lot of time in the event a password is lost.

• If your installer has input their own email address on starting up the unit and you need to recover the password, the QR code will contain their email, not yours. It is not possible to change this unless you recover the password for the admin account, so you may need to contact them to provide you the security code.

• If you change your password, understand that you will need to update any logins to your recorder from your Device. This means changing the password your mobile app or software VMS.

• If you input your password incorrectly more than the stated number of attempts. You can bypass the timed lockout period by rebooting the recorder.

Your FLIR Client 12 software system information screen displays useful system information such as the IP address, MAC address, device ID, Device model, and firmware version for your DVR / NVR system.

To access system information:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under System,‎ click Info to open the Info tab.

4.Click Refresh to refresh the information.

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Display to open the IP Camera tab.

4.Click Quick Add to search for and add IP cameras from the LAN.
OR

5.Click the Add icon () next to an empty channel to manually add an IP camera.

LIMITATION: LHK Series NVRs only support Lorex IP cameras. Visit www.lorex.com/compatibility for a complete list of compatible IP cameras. When adding Lorex PTZ cameras, ensure that you change the Protocol from Private to ONVIF.

To edit IP cameras:

• Click the Edit icon () to edit a connected IP camera using the camera attributes window:

To delete an IP camera:

• Click the Delete icon () to delete a connected IP camera.

REMINDER: Deleting an IP camera removes it from the channel it is currently connected to. You can add these cameras to the system again at any time. You can only delete cameras from the LAN, and not those which are connected directly to the NVR.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Changing a camera’s On-Screen Display (OSD)

The On-Screen Display (OSD) shows the channel name with the date and time stamp on the top-right corner of the live feed or video playback. You can change the settings and the position of the OSD using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac. Click here for more information on locating software downloads.

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software. Click here for information on how to log in to the FLIR Client 12 software.

To change a camera’s OSD name / timestamp:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings,‎ click Display and then click the Live tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select the channel to configure the OSD for.

5.Click the field next to Channel Name to edit the channel name.

6.Click the Show Name switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ the channel name shown on-screen in live viewing and recordings.

7.Click the Covert switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎‎ the timestamp shown on-screen in recordings.

IMPORTANT: By default,‎ the system is set to show timestamps in video recordings. It is highly recommended to show timestamps in recordings for legal reasons.

8.Click Save to save settings.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Configuring basic network settings

The LHA / LNK Series DVR / NVR requires an IP address to communicate with the router. The IP address can be automatically assigned by the router using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), or can be manually assigned a static IP address. You can configure these settings using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac. Click here for more information on locating software downloads.

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software. Click here for information on how to log in to the FLIR Client 12 software.

REMINDER: DHCP is the recommended default network setting. A static IP address requires you to configure the IP address,‎ subnet mask,‎ gateway, and DNS settings.

To configure basic network settings:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings,‎ click Network to open the Network tab.

4.Click the Type drop-down menu and select DHCP (default — recommended)‎ or Static. Selecting Static requires you to edit the IP Address,‎ Subnet Mask,‎ Gateway and DNS settings.

REMINDER: If you have selected Static, click the fields next to IP Address,‎ Subnet Mask,‎ Gateway and DNS to edit as required.

5.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Configuring mainstream recording settings

Your DVR / NVR system uses two different recording streams:

• Mainstream: a high-quality stream used for live viewing and recording.

• Substream: a lower quality stream used for remote viewing and playback.

You can use these recording streams to record high-quality video locally and review video remotely with low bandwidth. These settings can be configured using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software.

• NVR units also support a Mobilestream to set a custom video stream for remote viewing purposes. The following instructions require you to access your system using your DVR / NVR and a monitor.

To configure a mainstream recording stream:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings,‎ click Record,‎ then click on the Mainstream tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to configure the mainstream for.

5.In the Resolution drop-down menu, select the recording resolution.

6.In the FPS drop-down menu, select the number of frames per second.

7.In the Bitrate Control drop-down, select a control method:

◦ CBR (default)‎: Constant Bit Rate.‎

◦ VBR: Variable Bit Rate. In the second drop-down, select a quality level for the video stream.

8.In the Bitrate Mode drop-down menu, select the bitrate mode:

◦ Predefined: select a preset value.

◦ User-defined: enter a custom bitrate value.

9.In the Bitrate drop-down menu, select the bitrate mode (predefined bitrate mode)‎,‎ or enter a custom bitrate between 1024-8192Kbps (user-defined bitrate mode)‎.

10.Click the Audio switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ audio on the selected channel (audio-enabled camera required)‎.

11.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Configuring motion detection settings

You can configure your DVR / NVR system to record motion detection events using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software

To enable and configure motion detection:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Alarm to open the Motion tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to configure motion detection for.

5.Click the Enable switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ motion detection.

6.In the Sensitivity drop-down menu, select a sensitivity level for motion events. The lower the sensitivity value,‎ the more movement is required to trigger motion detection.

7.In the Buzzer drop-down menu, select whether you would like the DVR to make an alarm sound when motion is detected.

8.Click the Full Screen switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ full screen viewing when motion is detected.

9.In the Post Recording drop-down, select the amount of time the system will record video for after motion is detected.

10.Click the Show Message switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ on-screen messages when motion is detected.

11.Click the Send Email switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ email notification when motion is detected.

IMPORTANT: Ensure you have enabled email notifications.

12.Click the Record Channel switch to enable ()‎ or disable ()‎ recording when motion is detected.

13.Click on the numbered boxes representing channels that should also be recorded when motion is detected on the selected channel. Check the Analog All checkbox to select all.

14.The camera image appears with a red grid overlay on the entire image,‎ letting you know that motion detection is active for the entire image. Click or click-and-drag to add / remove area from the red grid.

REMINDER: Motion detection will be disabled for areas of the image without red overlay. Motion events which occur in the red overlay will not trigger motion detection. Disabling motion detection in certain areas of the image is an effective way to eliminate unwanted recordings and notifications,‎ such as those caused by trees blowing in the wind or street traffic seen through an open window.

15.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Configuring recording settings

Your DVR / NVR system has recording settings that can be configured using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac. Basic configuration options include recording for specific channels, selecting a stream mode, and enabling pre-recording.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software.

To configure recording settings:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings,‎ click Record to open the Record tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to set recording parameters for.

5.In the Stream Mode drop-down menu, configure the recording mode:

◦ Select DualStream to record using mainstream recording settings while using the substream for remote viewing.

◦ Select MainStream to use mainstream recording only.

IMPORTANT: You must set the Stream Mode to DualStream in order to play back recordings using the FLIR Secure mobile app. Live viewing will not be affected.

· Click here to configure Mainstream recording settings using FLIR Client 12 software.

6.Click the Record switch to enable ( )‎ or disable ( )‎ recording.

7.Click the PreRecord switch to enable ( )‎ or disable ( )‎ pre-recording of motion events.

8.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Configuring substream recording settings

Your DVR / NVR system uses two different recording streams:

FLIR Client 12 Software: Date and time on the DVR / NVR

If you would like to correct or adjust your DVR / NVR system time, you can configure time settings by enabling / disabling the Network Time Protocol (NTP), adjust Daylight Savings Time (DST), or manually enter the time using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have downloaded and installed the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac. Click here for more information on locating software downloads.

• Ensure that you have logged in and added your DVR / NVR system to the FLIR Client 12 software. Click here for information on how to log in to the FLIR Client 12 software.

• Ensure your DVR / NVR is connected to a Router or switch on your network using the included Ethernet cable. A constant connection to the Internet is required to use NTP.

To enable / disable NTP:

1.Launch FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under System, click General to open the General tab.

4.Click the NTP checkbox to show NTP options.

5.Click the NTP switch to enable () or disable () NTP on the system.

6.In the Server Address drop-down menu, select the desired NTP server.

RECOMMENDED: Use the default Lorex server: ntp.lorexddns.net.

7.In the Time Zone drop-down menu, select the correct region.

REMINDER: In most cases, the region should already be correct as it was configured during the DVR setup wizard. The selected region is also used by the system to intelligently determine the correct video format for that region, which may change automatically when changing the region. For example, changing the region from New York to London will also switch the video format of the system from NTSC to PAL.

8.Click Save to sync with the NTP server.

You can also enable / disable DST if required.

To enable / disable DST:

1.Launch FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Under System, click General, then click the DST tab.

3.In the DST drop-down, select Enable.

4.In the Time Offset drop-down menu, select the time difference to use for DST.

5.In the Daylight Saving Time drop-down menu, select a mode of entry for effective dates:

◦ Select Week to choose DST time changes that are relative to the day of the week (for example, on the second Sunday of March).

◦ Select Date to choose a specific date and time for each DST time change (for example, on March 13th at 2:00AM).

6.Enter the desired Start Time and End Time for Daylight Savings Time. System time will move forward an hour at the start time, and back an hour at the end time.

7.Click Save.

You can also manually enter a time in your DVR / NVR system using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

To manually configure the date and time:

1.Launch FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Under System, click General to open the General tab.

3.Click the field next to Date to select the correct date from the calendar.

4.Enter the correct time and use the Time drop-down menu to select AM or PM if using 12-hour time format.

5.In the Date Format drop-down menu, select how you want the date to appear.

6.In the Time Format drop-down menu, select how you want the time to appear.

7.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Downloading recorded video on PC / Mac

FLIR Client 12 software allows you to download recorded video for storage or playback on your PC / Mac.

The following instructions require you to access your system using the FLIR Client 12 software and a PC / Mac.

To download recorded video:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Playback in the top-right corner of the home page.

3.Click the Download icon () to open the Download menu.

TIP: Video files available for download during your current playback period are shown in the Download menu.

4.Click the checkbox next to the video files you want to download to your computer. You can see the start time,‎ end time, and file size of each video before downloading.

5.Click Start Download to download the selected files on your PC / Mac.

Once you have downloaded recorded video to your PC / Mac. You can play downloaded files using the Lorex Player 11 bundled software. Click here to learn how to view and play recorded video files.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Viewing downloaded video with Lorex Player 11 on PC / Mac

When you download recorded video using the FLIR Client 12 software,‎ the software allows you to select the file type.

• For Mac users who wish to view backed up video on their computer,‎ it is recommended to select AVI or MP4 file type,‎ which can be played by most video player software.

• PC users have the option of using the Lorex Player 11 software which is capable of playing H.264 files. Click here for more information on locating software downloads.

The following instructions require you to access your system using the Lorex Player 11 software and a PC / Mac.

To view downloaded video using Lorex Player 11:

1.Launch Lorex Player 11 on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Open File to load a single video file. If you want to load a folder, click the Arrow icon () next to Open File.

TIP: If you wish to learn more about where your downloaded video file is located, click here for details on setting video download location and file type.

3.Select the file and click Open. If you are opening a folder,‎ click Add.

4.Double-click the file in the list on the right-side to begin playback.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Enabling and configuring Auto Capture of snapshots

You can set the your DVR / NVR system to record snapshots using the Auto Capture feature on your FLIR Client 12 software. Auto Capture automatically saves snapshots of a camera image at time intervals, and help to conserve hard disk drive (HDD) space during times when video recording is not required. ‎Auto Capture is disabled by default.

To enable and configure Auto Capture:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Picture to open the Picture tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to configure Auto Capture for.

5.In the Stream Mode drop-down menu, select Main stream or Sub stream for Auto Captures.

6.In the Continuous Interval drop-down menu, select a time period. A snapshot will be captured at every continuous interval even if there is no activity in the camera image.

7.In the Alarm Interval drop-down menu, select a time period. A snapshot will be captured at every alarm interval while a motion event is occurring.

8.Click the Auto Capture switch to enable () or disable () Auto Capture for the selected channel.

9.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Enabling and configuring Manual Capture of snapshots

You can quickly take snapshots from enabled channels using the Manual Capture feature using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac. Capture by default, is disabled.

To enable and configure Manual Capture:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Picture to open the Picture tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to enable Manual Capture for.

5.Click the Manual Capture switch to enable () or disable () Manual Capture for the selected channel.

6.Click Save.

Once you have enabled manual capture, you can manually capture snapshots.

To manually capture a snapshot:

Click the Manual Capture icon () on the Mini Menu above a camera’s live display.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Logging in on PC / Mac

You can access your LHA / LNK Series DVR / NVR System using the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

Prerequisites:

• Ensure that you have completed basic setup and the Setup Wizard on your DVR / NVR system. Refer to your included Quick Start Guide for details.

• Ensure that you have recorded the device ID from the QR code label on the top panel of your DVR / NVR and the Client Port value from the system information screen on your DVR / NVR. Accessing system information.

• Ensure you have downloaded and installed FLIR Client 12 on your PC / Mac.

Once you have completed these prerequisites, you can log in to the FLIR Client 12 software.

To log into the DVR using FLIR Client 12:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Enter the Device ID of the DVR / NVR.

3.Enter the Client Port.

4.Enter the User Name.

5.Enter the Password.

REMINDER: The default password will only work if you are accessing the DVR / NVR for the first time using the FLIR Client 12 software. If you completed initial setup on the DVR / NVR,‎ you will have already created your own,‎ secure password.

6.Click Login.

7.If you are accessing the DVR / NVR for the first time from your PC / Mac,‎ you will be asked to enter a new password. Enter the password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields.

RECOMMENDED: Your new,‎ secure password should be used from now on to access your DVR / NVR locally,‎ as well as remotely using FLIR Client 12 or the FLIR Secure app for smartphones and tablets.

1.Click OK.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Manually updating DVR / NVR firmware on PC / Mac

Your LHA / LNK Series DVR / NVR can receive firmware updates:

• Automatically over a network, connected by an Ethernet cable (included). Click here for information on how to automatically upgrade firmware.

• Manually by connecting a USB flash drive (not included) to your DVR / NVR. Click here for more information about manually upgrading firmware through your DVR / NVR.

• Manually by connecting a USB flash drive (not included) to your PC / Mac and using the FLIR Client 12 software.

IMPORTANT: It is recommended to use automatic upgrade unless directed by technical support to perform a manual upgrade. Technical support will provide you with a .bin file for manual firmware upgrade. Do not power off the DVR / NVR during a firmware upgrade.

Prerequisites:

• Download and install the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac. Click here for more information on locating software downloads.

• Save the .bin file on your PC / Mac.

To manually update the DVR / NVR firmware:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting.

3.Under Advanced,‎ click Maintenance > Firmware Update tab.

4.Click Scan.

5.Select the .bin file saved on your PC / Mac, and then click Open.

6.Click Start to upgrade the firmware.

7.Allow 5-10 minutes for the system to upgrade. The DVR / NVR will automatically restart when the firmware upgrade is complete.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Modifying user accounts on PC / Mac

You can use the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac to change user passwords, change permissions, or enable / disable user accounts.

Prerequisites:

• Use a monitor and mouse to complete the basic setup steps and the Setup Wizard on your DVR / NVR. Refer to your included Quick Start Guide for details.

• Ensure that you have at least one camera connected to your DVR / NVR.

• Ensure you have logged in with your administrator account to manage user settings

The following instructions require you to access your system using the FLIR Client 12 software and a PC / Mac.

To modify user accounts:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the home page.

3.Under System,‎ click Users to open the Users tab.

4.Click the administrator or user account you would like to edit.

5.Configure the following:

◦ User Name: Modify the user name for the selected account.

◦ Password / Confirm: Modify and confirm a new password for the selected account.

◦ Enable: For user accounts,‎ click the slider to enable ()‎ or ‎disable () the user account.

6.For user accounts, edit the user permissions to your preference:

◦ Check the boxes next to any system menus or capabilities you would like the user to access.

◦ Click All to check all boxes.

◦ Click Clear to check none of the boxes.

7.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Restoring to default settings

You can restore your DVR / NVR system to default settings using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac. You can choose to restore all settings at once, or just settings on specific menus. Restoring default settings does not affect recordings and snapshots saved to the hard drive.

To restore default settings:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 Software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Advanced, click Maintenance, then click the Load Default tab.

4.Click the switches next to the system menus to you would like to include () or discard () from the restore, or click All to reset all menus.

5.Click Save to confirm. The DVR / NVR will reboot automatically.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Setting a picture schedule for Auto Capture

You can configure your DVR / NVR system to set a picture schedule for Auto Capture using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

To set a picture schedule:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Picture, the click the Picture Schedule tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to set a privacy zone for.

5.In the Week drop-down menu, select the day of the week you would like to set the schedule for.

6.The times of day during which continuous Auto Capture is enabled are represented by green bars, and motion by yellow. Click-and-drag to enable or disable continuous or motion captures during a certain time of day.

TIP: Repeat steps 5 and 6 for as many days of the week you would like to configure the schedule for.

7.If needed, use the Copy functions to copy the schedule for one day to other days of the week, or to copy one channel’s entire schedule to other channels.

8.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Setting a recording schedule

You can set your DVR / NVR system to a custom recording schedule according to your needs using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac. For example, you can set the system to record continuously during business hours and record on motion detection only outside of business hours. A custom recording schedule helps reduce the amount of hard disk drive (HDD) space required, increasing the time your system can retain recordings.

Prerequisites:

3.Under Settings, click Record, then click on the Schedule tab.

4.In the Channel drop-down menu, select a channel to set the recording schedule for.

5.In the Week drop-down menu, select the day of the week you would like to set the schedule for.

5.In the Week drop-down menu, select the day of the week you would like to set the schedule for.

6.The times of day during which email notifications for motion events are enabled are represented by yellow bars, and system warnings by red. Click-and-drag to enable or disable email notifications during a certain time of day.

7.If needed, use the Copy functions to copy the schedule for one day to other days of the week, or to copy one channel’s entire schedule to other channels.

8.Click Save.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Setting file type and download location

Your FLIR Client 12 software allows you to set the download location and file type for video recordings and snapshots.

Prerequisites:

• Download and install the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

• Configure the FLIR Client 12 software with your DVR / NVR system.

The following instructions require you to access your system using the FLIR Client software and a PC / Mac.

To set download location and file type:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software on your PC / Mac.

2.Click Local Settings in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Click the Browse icon () next to each of the path fields to display the Browse for Folder window.

4.Select the folder you would like to save recorded video, downloaded video, and snapshots, and then click OK.

5.In the File type drop-down, select a file type for video downloads.

RECOMMENDED: For Mac users who wish to view backed up video on their computer, select the AVI or MP4 file type,‎ which can be played by most video player software.
PC Users have the option of using the Lorex Player 11 software which is capable of playing H.264 files.

6.Click Save.

Once you have set your file path, you can download your recorded videos.

FLIR Client 12 Software: Setting up email notifications using custom server information

You can use custom server information to send and receive notifications on your DVR / NVR system using the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac. You can configure your email notifications to receive emails for events like motion detection or system warnings.

To enable email notifications using custom server information:

1.Launch the FLIR Client 12 software for PC / Mac.

2.Click Remote Setting in the top-right corner of the window.

3.Under Settings, click Network, then click the Email tab.

4.In the Email drop-down menu, select Enable from the to enable email notifications using a custom mail server.

5.In the Encryption drop-down menu, select an encryption type.

6.Enter the SMTP port.

7.Enter the URL used by your mail server in the SMTP Server field.

8.Enter the user name for the mail server.

9.Enter the Password password for the mail server.

10.Enter the sending email address in the Sender Email field. This can be any email of your choice.

11.Enter up to 3 email addresses that will receive email notifications from the system in the Receiver fields.

12.In the Interval drop-down menu, select the minimum amount of time between email notifications. This can be used to limit the number of notifications you receive throughout the day.

13.Click Save.

How to manually update my recorder?

Download the firmware

If you have not acquired the firmware yet, download it from this article (click HERE) and save it to your flash drive (do not put it in a folder). We recommend a flash drive capacity of 32GB or smaller.

Update

Insert the flash drive into your DVR.
Access Menu and go to Advanced (left) then Maintain (top).
Click on Upgrade.

A new window will open which shows the files in your flash drive. Select the firmware you downloaded then click on OK.NOTE: Filename varies per model. Use the firmware sent to you if there’s any.

A confirmation window will appear, click on OK to continue.

The update will begin; do not interrupt it until the recorder has completed the update.

To update your system over-the-air (OTA), you must make sure your recorder is connected to a modem or router with an internet connection. If you just connected it, give a minute or two before you proceed.

Once that’s done, do the following:

Access your recorder’s MENU then to go ADVANCE > AUTO UPGRADE.
Click Check Now.
If there’s an update available, read the changes to keep you posted what the update is all about, then click OK.
Read carefully all prompts that might appear and follow succeeding instructions properly.

!!! DO NOT TURN OFF the recorder while it is updating as this might brick the system !!!

NOTE²: If your device has a Firmware V7.1.0-20180810 or older, please follow this NVR16-8580 Transition Firmware Update article to apply the required transition firmware before installing the latest available firmware.

To check what is your current firmware, access the NVR’s Menu then go to System > Information and look for the Software Version. For a NVR16-8580, the latest Software Version is v8.1.0-20220419

Before you try the following steps below, read this article first: How to do OTA update?

If you are unable to use the automatic update service to update the recorder, you can use the following procedure to update manually.

Prepare the following:

Computer with internet connection
USB flash drive (preferably 32GB or below)
Mouse and monitor connected to the NVR

Quick install steps

Download the correct image file:

Prepare a FAT32 flash drive or USB – it needs to be on FAT32 for it to be read; there is no need for an external HDD as the files are small.
Download the firmware file HERE and save it to your flash drive.
Plugin the flash drive and mouse to any of the available USB ports of the NVR (front or back).

Apply the firmware to the recorder:

1. Access the Menu and go to Advanced > Maintain then click on Update.
2. Select the file you downloaded from “Step no. 2” and click OK.
  - Tip: If the recorder is unable to read the copied files but the drive is properly recognized, click the Format option on this screen and copy the firmware file again.
3. A confirmation window will appear, click on OK again.
4. NVR will start to update. Make sure NOT to unplug the USB or turn off the NVR while it is updating.
5. The NVR will reboot automatically to apply the new firmware. Do NOT power cycle the NVR manually.

Firmware update for V8 recorders via Swann Security VMS (Windows)

This article will guide you on how to manually install the latest firmware of your Swann Security V8 recorder using the Swann Security VMS software.

After installing the software, follow the instructions below:

Open Swann Security software and go to Device Management
Click the gear icon for that recorder
1. If you haven’t added your unit yet, follow this article: How to access V8 recorder on a computer? (Windows)
Once in Settings, go to Advanced (side) > Upgrade (submenu) then click on Scan
Browse for the file, select it, then click Open
Click Start – Do NOT turn off the internet, PC, and recorder
A prompt at the bottom-left will appear once upgrade is complete – “Upgrade Completed”
The recorder will reboot and may take few minutes before it appears online again in the software.
Once online, check the firmware if it was applied.

Generally, the newest firmware will be at the bottom of the list/page.
Normally the date that the firmware version was uploaded to their portal will be shown in the right column.

Finding the Latest Hikvision Firmware for your PTZ

Find the correct firmware for your Hikvision PTZ with 3 easy steps:

With this Post open on your PC, please press CTRL + F on your keyboard (Command + F on a Mac)
Type in your camera’s product code and press ENTER to search
- NB – You will only need to type in 4 characters. For example if you are looking for “DS-2DE2103-DE3” you will only need to search “2103”
Click on the link in the corresponding subheading at the top of the section that your PTZ model appears in to be taken to the correct page at the download portal for your camera’s latest firmware
