How to Download and Prepare Firmware

Description

This guide will show how to download and prepare the firmware file for a Dahua device.

Firmware files for Dahua devices can be found at Firmware by Device or the specific product page for the device

Firmware is typical provided in a ZIP file, a compressed file format

This file will contain the actual firmware file, which needs to be extracted from the ZIP file in preparation for the upgrade

Prerequisites

• Computer with internet access (to download firmware file)

• Dahua device

Confirm the Model and current firmware of Dahua device

1. Enter the IP of the device into a browser

At the Web Login

Enter the Username and Password

Click Login

2. Click Info

3. Click Version

The Device Type will be displayed

The current System Version will be displayed

Download the firmware file for device from DahuaWiki

4. In a browser go to DahuaWiki.com

Under Specifications, Firmware, & Manuals

Click the device type (in this example Recorder)

5. Enter the device model into the field

6. The results will be filtered

7. Click the firmware icon to download the firmware file

8. The file will download

Extract the firmware file to local computer

9. Right click the Start Menu / Windows icon in the bottom left of the screen

Select File Explorer

10. Select Desktop

11. Click Home

Then click New folder to create a new folder to extract the contents of the firmware zip file

12. Find the created folder in the list, double click to open

13. Under the Downloads window of the browser, click ‘Show in folder’

A new File Explorer window should open containing the directory the firmware zip was downloaded to

Locate the file in the list

14. Right click

Select Cut

15. Select the window with the new directory

Right click in the window

Select Paste

The folder will appear in the directory

16. Right click the file

17. The contents of the zip file will appear in a new window

18. Click to select all files in the folder

Drag and drop the files to the created folder

The files will appear in the directory

The firmware file will appear in the directory ready to use

Step by Step Instructions

Single Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the device you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for that device in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the device you want to upgrade in the list and click on the Folder icon next to it under the Upgrade File Path column

4. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

5. Verify the file path is listed next to the device in the list.
Then click on the Upgrade icon to the right of the device in the Operate column

6. Click on OK

7. The progress bar will fill up as the device is upgraded

8. Once the device has been successfully upgraded you will see a Green Check Mark next to it in the list

Batch Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the devices you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for those devices in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the devices you want to upgrade in the list and check the boxes next to them. (Make sure all devices you check require the same firmware.)
Then click on Batch Upgrade at the top

6. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

8. The progress bars will fill up as the devices are upgraded

9. Once the devices have been successfully upgraded you will see Green Check Marks next to them in the list

Recorder Firmware Update via Online

Description

This page will show you how to update your Dahua Recorder online.

Note: All devices should be “Factory Reset” once the firmware update is complete.

When the NVR detects there is a newer firmware in the server, a ‘1′ icon will appear at the System icon.

The entire process takes about 5 minutes depending on network connection.

With various passwords to remember, sometimes we simply just forget how to log in to our devices. It may be something easy, but at times we just hit a blank which can be totally understandable. Luckily there are ways to regain access.

Method 1 – Firmware Pre 2017 – No Forgot Password Option

If you have an older recorder that was purchased pre-2017 and has not had a firmware update over the last couple of years, you will need to give IC Plus Support your device details who will in turn will provide you a password reset method. The easiest visual indication to find out if you have an older firmware is to see if you have an option for “Forgot Password” on the login screen, if not then you will need to call us. For this method it is advised to have a monitor and mouse attached to your DVR, regardless of whether you view it from a software VMS on your computer or from your mobile device.

Ensure that you take note of the time and date that is displayed on the recorders’ menu as this will be asked by the support agent. You may also be asked for the device model & serial number. This can usually be found on the underside or side of the DVR.

Method 2 – Firmware Post 2017 – Forgot Password Option

Later firmware versions from March 2017 onwards, utilize a “Forgot Password” procedure embedded within the recorders’ local GUI.

• You will need access to the web browser or local interface of the recorder

• DMSS Mobile application

1. There may have been a system unlock pattern configured that you cannot remember, clicking “Forgot Unlock Pattern” will take you to the standard password login screen. You may be able to gain access with a known password other than the pattern itself.

2. If you cannot remember the password, you can click on the “Forgot Password” option. You will be shown some terms and conditions with regards to the service collecting some information in order to reset your password.

3. If an email address has not been associated with your Admin account, you will be prompted to insert an email address to recover your password. Make sure not to make any mistakes before proceeding (Do not worry if your recorder is not connected to the internet at this point, but ensure you insert an email address that you have access to.)

4. A QR Code will be displayed onscreen.

5. Open the DMSS mobile application. On the Home page, select Me in the bottom right, Tool Manager, then lastly Password Resetting. Agree to prompt requesting permssion to access your phones camera.

6. Scan the QR code. You should receive a message on screen to say it has been successful. Wait a few minutes, then check your email.

7. The code will be the digits that follows the (SN:123456) part of the email.

8. Enter this code at the bottom of the forgot password interface and click next.

9. You will then be prompted to insert a new password for the recorder. Insert and confirm the password. Now you will be able to use your new password to access the recorder.

*Pro Tip – if you are prompted to sync the password to the remote devices (connected ip cameras), say yes or you may lose connectivity to connected cameras and possibly may need to change reset the camera passwords.

Tips for Passwords

• On first startup, follow the device Startup Wizard and do not skip pass the section relating to email address and Security questions. Both of these will save you a lot of time in the event a password is lost.

• If your installer has input their own email address on starting up the unit and you need to recover the password, the QR code will contain their email, not yours. It is not possible to change this unless you recover the password for the admin account, so you may need to contact them to provide you the security code.

• If you change your password, understand that you will need to update any logins to your recorder from your Device. This means changing the password your mobile app or software VMS.

• If you input your password incorrectly more than the stated number of attempts. You can bypass the timed lockout period by rebooting the recorder.

Dahua SmartPSS AC Complete User Guide, SmartPSS-AC is new platform software featuring lightweight, flexibility and specialization. It is designed for small and medium scenarios in solutions and can connect to various Dahua security products. Users can easily obtain the needed platform client that is used by corresponding solution.

Currently SmartPSS-AC has full function modules for attendance check and access solutions. It can connect to Dahua attendance check terminal, fingerprint/card/password access control devices, and access controller. It can meet the needs for attendance check of small and medium enterprises, such as making shift schedule, arranging staff shift, extracting attendance data, processing abnormality data, and exporting report.

In access solution, there are some new functions, such as scheduled extraction of attendance records at multiple time points, feedback function to improve user experience and more.

This article will show the steps on how to add an Access Controller to SMARTPSS-AC and change the Door Names easily identify the doors as we go through the configurations.

Important

• Access Controller must be on latest firmware or it may continuously go offline. Please check the firmware version of your controller before continuing through the instructions.

Pre-requisites

Having an initialized Access Controller on the local network ready to go. Please Follow these instructions if not already done so:

Step by Step Instructions

1. Open SmartPSS-AC and go to Device Manager

2. Click on Add

3. Enter the appropriate information of the access controller then click on add to finish adding the device.

4. You know it was successfull once you see the green status with Online.

5. At this point we recommend you go into the configuration of each door to rename them for an easier experience going forward.

Go back home and go to Access Configuration

6. On the left tabs click on Access Config -> then click on the door you want to rename -> then under the Door entry type the new name
Then click on Save

7. You should now see the Doors renamed

Description

This article will show how to setup and create Time templates and Holiday schedules.

Time Templates are your normal everyday time schedules. These can be linked to your Permission Groups or Door Configuration Timezones.
Holiday Plans with override regular Time Templates on specific dates. These need to be linked with the Time Template creation.

Step by Step Instructions

Time Template

1. Go to Access Configuration

2. For these instructions we will create a 9am to 5pm Shift. Anything filled in with green is considered the Granted Access time. Greyed-out areas mean No Access

–Click on Add
–Give the Schedule a name and enter a description
–Click on the gear icon to edit the schedule

3. Now enter the time frame you want the doors to be active. You can also add multiple periods by clicking on +. You can also select the days you want the periods to take affect. For these instructions we will have a single period from 9am – 5pm ever single day of the week.

Holiday Plan

This section of the instructions will go over the Holiday Plan creation. Holidays will override the Week Plan we just created on specific days. In this example we will show a New Years Holiday plan with No Access during that date.

4. Go to Holiday Plan

5. Select the gear icon to modify the schedule

6. Edit the schedule you would like the Holiday plan to take. Then click on OK

7. You can now see the schedule take affect on the timeline. Now go to Add under “Holiday List“

8. Here you will create the Holiday plan details

–Give the Holiday Plan a name
-Set the date you would like the Holiday Plan to take
-Set the amount of days the Holiday will take affect

Then click on OK to continue

9. Make sure you check the Holiday we just created to link it to the Holiday Schedule. Then click on Save

10. The Holiday is now in effect

Description

This article will go over adding users with all three methods of authentication for doors on SmartPSS-AC.

• How to add a user: Adding users through the “Personnel Manager” tab will allow you to open doors via the three authentication methods (Pins, Cards, Fingerprints)

• How to assign PINs to Users: PINs can be assigned to each user to be able to open a door. PINs need to be at least a 6 digit number.

• How to assign Cards to Users: Cards can be assigned via Dahua Card Reader or using Dahua Card Enrollment Reader (ASM100)

• How to assign Fingerprints to Users: Fingerprints can be assigned to users via Dahua Fingerprints Reader or Dahua Fingerprint Enrollment Reader (ASM202)

Step by Step Instructions

How to add a User

1. Go to Personnel Manager

2. Click on Add

3. Assign the user a User ID and a Name. Click on the dropdown arrow to reveal more details.

4. You can now further customize the user’s entry. Click Finish to complete adding the user.

How to assign PINs to Users

5. Go to Certification on the user.

6. Click on Add to create a PIN

7. Enter at least a 6-digit password and confirm it. Then click on OK to save the entry. Then click on Finish to finalize the new PIN.

Note: to enter the PIN you will need to enter the UserID#6-digit# (i.e. 1#123456#)

How to assign Cards to Users

8. To add a card you first need to select the method. Click on the Gear Icon to select the method of adding the card.

9. If you purchased the ASM100 then select Card Issuer

10. Then click on Add

11. Scan the card on the ASM100 and the number will populate on the box entry. Click on OK to confirm.

12. If you are using an existing Card Reader on the Access Controller then select the Door the reader is on. In this example I have the Card Reader on Door 1 which I renamed to Front Door.

13. Scan the card and the number should populate on the box entry. Click on OK to confirm.

14. You will now see the Card entry if done correctly. Click on Finish to save any changes.

How to assign Fingerprints to Users

15. To add a Finger print you first need to select the method. Go to the gear Icon to select how you will be registering the fingerprint.

16. If you purchased our ASM202 select Fingerprint Scanner

17. Then click on Add

18. Select Add Fingerprint, then place your finger on the scanner. It will need to scan your finger a total of three times. Please wait for the beep after each scan.

19. In this article we will be using a Fingerprint reader on door 2 named Side Door.

20. Select Add Fingerprint, then place your finger on the scanner. It will need to scan your finger a total of three times. Please wait for the beep after each scan.

21. You will see the fingerprint entry if done successfully.

22. Click on Finish to save any changes.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Open SmartPSS-AC and go to Personnel Manager

2. Click on the Permission Configuration tab on the left menus

3. To start creating a Permission Group click on the + icon

4. Follow these next following step

1. Give the door group a name and add a decryption or remark
2. Select the time template you created or select any of the pre-configured ones. In this tutorial we will be selecting the one we created “Front Door Schedule”
3. Select the Doors that will follow the time template
4. Click on OK to save it.

5. We now need to add users to the Permission Group to give them authorization to the linked Doors. Click on the “User” icon to start.

6. Select the users you want to give permission to the doors. Then click on OK to save the changes.

7. The Door group has now been created and you can verify to make sure the users and doors were saved correctly by checking on the permission group.

DSS Pro is a comprehensive and expandable Dahua VMS for flexible, scalable, reliable and powerful central management. With client-server architecture, DSS Pro provides central management, information sharing, convenient connections, and multi-service cooperation. The software provides basic functions such as user permission management, device management, alarm management, and central storage, but also delivers advanced features of video wall and map configuration, access control features, video intercom, attendance, and analytic functions such as face detection and object detection. It also integrates add-ons such as business intelligence and traffic surveillance.

DSS Server Installation

This guide will show how to download and install DSS Pro.

Step by Step Instructions

Install Server Software

1.Download and run the Install package for DSS Pro

Check the box to agree to the Software agreement.

Click Next

2. Select Main Server when you first install

If you are installing the server in a distributed network, select Sub Server

Click Next

3. Select the installation path

– Make sure there is enough space on the disk for the server software – It is suggested to install in a non-system disk

Click Install

The process may take 4-8 minutes.

Once fully installed click Run to start DSS Pro server

DSS Pro Server configuration

The DSS Professional Server software will display the Config Wizard on first startup

All network cards for the server will be displayed.

Select the network card and click Next Step

Please note the license key can only be bound to one network card, if you change the network card the license key will be void.

Disable or enable TLS1.0

It is recommended to disable TLS1.0 due to serious security vulnerability in the TLS1.0 protocol

Click Finish

DSS Server software is now installed.

DSS Sub Server Installation

This guide will show how to install and setup a DSS Pro Sub Server.

Step by Step Instructions

1. Download and run the installer package for DSS Pro.
Check the box to agree to the Software License Agreement and then click on Next

2. Select the option for Sub under “Select server type”.
Then click on Next

3. Choose the installation path or leave it as default.
Then click on Install

4. Wait as the software is installed

5. When the installation is complete, click on Run

6. After the DSS Pro software starts up, check on the box next to the network card you want to use for the Sub Server to communicate with the Main Server and the rest of the network.
Then click on Next Step

7. Enter the local IP address of the DSS Pro Main Server that is already running in the Center IP field.
Then enter the HTTPS port of the DSS Pro Main Server in the HTTPS Visiting Port field.
And click on Finish

8. Wait for all the Sub Server’s services to start up.
It will says “Running” at the top right when they have all started

9. Log into the Client of the DSS Pro Main Server and click on the Setting icon on the left

10. Select System Deployment at the bottom

11. You should see the Sub Server’s IP address listed with “Sub Server” under “Type”.
Enable the slider next to it under “Operation”

12. The DSS Pro Sub Server’s services will all restart.
Once all the services are running again, you should see “Running” under Server Status

13. Click on the Gear icon to the right of the Sub Server

14. Click on the drop-down below “Server Type” and either choose Sub Server to keep it as a standard Sub Server that only helps distribute the load from connected devices, or select Standby Server so that the Standby Server takes over if another Sub Server goes down. (Which requires another Sub Server to be setup in addition to the Standby Server.)
Then click on OK

15. Click on Allocate Resources at the top

16. Drag an added device from the list on the left to either the Main Server or Sub Server to choose which server manages that device’s resources.
Repeat this process for all devices in the list.
Alternatively you can select Auto Allocation and the system will automatically choose which server manages each device’s resources.
When you are done, click OK

DSS Server Configuration

This guide will show how to configure DSS Pro server settings, such as external IP mapping, port mapping , and the ability to start and restart the server and server services.

1.Login to DSS Pro Client and then go to Configurations > Device menu.

5. Select the adding mode and then enter device information. In this example, we are using IP address mode. For P2P and Auto-register, it must be setup first from recorder or IP Camera. Click Add.

6. Enter Device Name, select Device Type, and use the dropdown box to select the Time Zone. Click OK.

The device is now added to DSS.

Troubleshooting Tips

In the event that your device added but can’t see any cameras added to the software, please follow this following steps.

1. Click on the Edit button on your device.

2. Go to Video Channels. And then click on Get Info.

You can also use the dropdown box under Features to manually select the device features

3. The software will refresh the connection to the device and retrieve the camera channels that added to recorder. Once populated, click OK.

Import Device

This guide will show how to multiple Dahua devices at once to DSS Pro using the Import feature.

Step by Step Instructions

1.Login to DSS Pro Client and then go to Configurations > Device menu.

From Home Select the Configuration menu

2. Click on Device.

3. Click Device Configuration

Devices that are added to DSS Pro will appear in the Device Tree in the center

4. Expand the device tree and select the channel to configure (for example, the video channel)

5. Configure Device settings as desired:

Note: Up to 3 days of recordings can be backed up to DSS Server

Recording Storage Config

For videos stored on the DSS server you can configure video retention period. When the storage space runs out, new recorded videos will overwrite the oldest videos automatically.

Toggle to enable/disable

Enter a Retention Period (in Days)

Click OK

Note: Retention Period is 0-180 Days

Add Device LPR

This guide will cover how to add LPR camera to DSS Pro V8.

Prerequisites

Dahua License Plate Recognition Camera

Step by Step Instructions

1. Open the DSS Pro V8 Client.
From the Home page select the Wrench icon on the left

2. Under “Basic Config” select Device

3. Select Add Device on the left.
Then select the Add option at the top

4. Under “Add Mode” click on the drop-down and select the appropriate option for how the DSS will connect to the License Plate Recognition Camera

5. Under “Device Category” click on the drop-down and select ANPR

6. Enter the information for connecting to the camera.
(In this case IP Address was selected as the Add Mode.)
Then select Add at the bottom

7. Enter a name for the camera under “Device Name”.
Then click on the drop-down below “Device Type” and select Access ANPR Camera

8. Click on the drop-down below “Device Series” and select Dahua ITC
Make sure the number of channels and the Timezone are correct.
When you are done, select OK at the bottom

9. You should see the camera listed in your device list at the top.
If it does not show an Online Status of “Online” immediately, select the Refresh option at the top until it does

Liveview Playback

This guide will show the options that available for Playback in DSS Pro V8 Client.

Download

DSS Pro V8 – Download Center

Description

This guide will show how to download recorded video using DSS Pro V8 Client.

Prerequisites

Step by Step Instructions

1. Go to Home, and then click on Download Center.

2. Select the Camera channel, choose the Date and Time for video footage you wish to review, and click Search.

 NOTE: under Position option, you need to select where the recording is saved. Store on Device is searching playback file from the recorder and Store on Server is searching playback file from DSS Storage.

3. Select the time period from the timeline. It will prompt user to enter the device password.

4. Enter the date and time you world like to download, and you can also choose the video format by clicking on the Transcode. By default the format will be .dav.

5. Your download will begin.

6. You can modify the storage path through the local settings.

User Management

This guide will show how to add Users and Roles for DSS Pro.

Step by Step Instructions

Create Role

1.Login to DSS Pro Client

From Home Click User

2. To add a Role

Select Role

Click Add

3. Enter the role name (if required copy the permissions from another role)

Select the corresponding permissions

Device Permissions – Select which devices are visible to the role Control Permissions – Select which device control options for the role Menu Permissions – Select which menu permissions for the role

Click OK to save all changes.

Create User

1. To add a User

2. Enter the basic user information, such as username and password

You can also select which other options you want for the user, such as Password Changing/Expiration policy

Local Disk Configuration

This guide will show how to setup and configure local disks for DSS Pro.

Prerequisites

HDD installed to DSS Pro

Step by Step Instructions

1.Login to DSS Pro Client and then go to Configurations > Device menu.

From Home Select the Configuration menu

2. Click on Storage

3. Click on “Server Disk”. and then choose your drive and click on the Initialize button.

NOTE: This will format your HDD, all files inside that drive will be removed.

4. Once the drive is initialized, click on Settings button to assign disk type. There are 3 types for storage, they are Video, Picture (Snapshot), and ANPR Picture (for LPR camera).

5. Once completed, your storage is now ready.

Net Disk Configuration

This guide will show how to setup and configure a Net Disk for DSS Pro.

Net disk – in this guide the EVS will be used

It is recommended to setup/configure EVS first before adding as a Net Disk to DSS

Use Ethernet cable to connect DSS (Port 3/4) and EVS (Port 1)
If you need to configure RAID, you should configure it on EVS first

Step by Step Instructions

1.Login to DSS Pro Client and then go to Configuration menu.

2. Click on Device.

3. Click on Device Configuration menu.

4. Select your Camera Channel from device root. You will see option for Recording Information. Click on Add Record Plan.

5. Under Record Plan, make sure you Enable it, and then select the Stream type and create your recording schedule. By default, it is set to 24/7 recording. To modify the Time Template, click under Time Template Selection, and click on Create Time Template.

Once everything set, click OK.

6. Your device will now record to DSS Local Storage.

DSS Agile 8 Setup

1. Open the DSS Agile 8 app on your mobile device.
Select Agree to accept the Software License Agreement and Privacy Policy

2. Swipe the screen from right to left to flip through the introduction images.
Then select Get Started

3. Enter the following information:
– Username
– Password
– Server Address
– Port (The HTTPS Client Login Port)

Then select Login

4. If your mobile device was able to connect and login to your DSS Pro V8 server you will see the following page.
Draw the login pattern so you can quickly login to the server in the future.
(If you don’t want an unlock pattern select “Skip” at the top left and skip to Step 6.)

5. Confirm the same pattern from Step 4

Description

This guide will show how to activate the DSS Pro/Express license.

! Note: this guide is for DSS Servers not connected to the Internet.

You will need to have another computer with Internet Access to activate the License.

Step by Step Instructions

1.Log into DSS and select [License].

2. Select [Activate Offline].

3. Insert the 16-digit License Key. If you have multiple License Keys, you can add them all together.

After adding all the License Keys, click on [Export]

4. DSS will then generate a LicenseActiveFile.zip.

Copy this file to another PC which has public Internet access.

5. Click on the blue link to go to DSS License Management Page

6. Select [DSS]

7. Select [Activate License]

8. Upload the LicenseActiveFile.zip.

Dahua DSS License Management System will check the file.

If the License is valid, it will activate it for you.

9. Once the License is activated, you will be requested to download a LicenseDat.zip.

10. Copy the LicenseDat.zip back to the PC that has DSS Client.

Click on [Import] and upload the LicenseDat.zip. Then DSS will be activated successfully.

!Note: LicenseActiveFile.zip and LicenseDat.zip are correlated. You cannot use the LicenseDat.zip on another PC rather than the one from which you extract the corresponding LicenseActiveFile.zip.

DSS/V8/DSS Express/Instruction/License Dectivation (Online)

Description

This guide will show how to deactivate the DSS Pro/Express license.

! Note: this guide is for DSS Servers connected to the Internet.

2. Click on [Online Deactivate License].

4. Click on the blue link to jump to DSS License Management Portal.

5. Select [Deactivate License] on the webpage.

6. Click on [Upload] and select the LicenseDeactivateFile.zip.

DSS License Management Portal will verity the file and deactivate the License Key for you.

7. Now, you can use the License Key on a new installation.

Add device to DSS Express V8

Description

This guide will show how to add Dahua device to DSS Express Software.

This document shows how to update from DSS V8.0.4 to DSS V8.1
Please note that the following instructions only apply to DSS Baseline. If you are using a customized version of DSS, that will be a case-by-case discussion if you want the update. Please consult Tech Support for more information
Only Baseline DSS Express and DSS Professional can be upgraded in this way
Because DSS is Server-client structure, you need to upgrade DSS Server before upgrading DSS Client

Step by Step Instructions

Part 0: Check the Current DSS Version

Log into DSS Client and select [About]

Here you can see the DSS Server Version. Make sure the Installation Package is later than this version.

Part 1: Back up the current system Database – this will prevent data loss in case of update failure

1. Go to the Home menu of DSS – Select [Backup and Restore]

2. Click on the folder icon to select the directory where you want to save the backup file. Then, click on [Backup Now]

3. Insert the Login Password of DSS Client and Encryption Password twice.

In the end, Click on OK and DSS will export the Backup File automatically.

4. When DSS finishes exporting the Backup File, you will receive a prompt message saying Backup successful

Part 2: Upgrade DSS Server

5. Go to DSS Service Manager and click on [Stop All] to temporarily pause DSS Services.

6. Click on [OK] to continue

7. Make sure DSS Services are stopped

8. Double click to run the newer version of DSS Installation Package

9. DSS Package will automatically detect the older version and overwrite the current directory. Click on [OK] to continue

10. Select [Agree] and click on [Next]

11. As you can see, you cannot manually change the installation path, because DSS Installation Package will automatically detect and overwrite the existing directory of DSS Server

12. Click on Install and wait for the Upgrade to complete

13. Click on [Run] and wait for DSS Services to restart

!Note: It may take some time for SMC Service to start, depending on the hardware of the Server

Part 3: Upgrade DSS Client

14. Run DSS Client as usual, and log in.

15. Then DSS Client will tell you to do an Update. Click on [Update Now]

16. DSS Client will automatically download the newer package

17. Then the upgrade will start. DSS Client Installation Package will detect the older version of DSS Client and overwrite it. Click on [OK] to continue

18. Select [Agree] and [Next]

19. As you can see, DSS Client Installation Package detects the existing DSS Client Directory and is ready to overwrite it

20. Click on [Install] and wait for the update to complete

21. In the end, click on run, log in and use DSS as usual.

22. You can go to [About] to check the current version of DSS

DSS/V8/DSS Express/Instruction/DSS Database Backup Restore

Cautions and Disclaimers

You can backup DSS Database before reinstalling DSS on another server. When the installation is complete, you can use the Database backup file to restore DSS configurations, which include Device information, Storage Plan, Event and User.

DSS Database Backup File can only be used for a DSS Installation Package of the same version.

For example, if you have backed up DSS Database from DSS V8.0.4, then this Database backup file can only be used on DSS V8.0.4. If you want to upgrade to DSS V8.1, you should install V8.0.4 first, restore DSS Database and then perform the upgrade to DSS V8.1.

Step by Step Instructions

Part 1: backup DSS Database

1. Log into DSS Client and select [Backup and Restore]

2. Click on the folder icon to select the directory where you want to save the Database backup file

3. Click on [Backup Now]

4. Insert DSS Log in Password and the password to encrypt DSS Database Backup File

5. Wait for DSS to complete the backup

6. There will be a prompt when backup is complete

7. In the directory you have chosen, there will be a dbk file. Keep this file in a safe place.

Part 2: Restore DSS Database

8. Log into DSS Client and select [Backup and Restore]

9. Select [Restore]

10. Click on the folder icon and select the Database Backup File that you want to use

11. Click on [Restore Now]

12. Insert DSS Login Password and the Encryption Password for the Database Backup File. Then click on [OK]

13. Wait for DSS to complete the restore

14. When the restore is complete, there will be a prompt saying that DSS will restart itself

15. Rest assured. DSS needs some time to restart itself

16. In DSS Service Management Center, you may notice that DSS is starting

17. When DSS starts to run as normal, the restore process is complete. Now your Database is restored.

Hikvision Password Reset – Do It Yourself Firstly, your device will need to be running recent / the latest available firmware. I can say that lost/forgotten passwords for Hikvision devices is a huge problem; requests to us from strangers worldwide is a new form of spam – at least ten per day!!

Firstly, your device will need to be running recent / the latest available firmware.

We have only yesterday seen the first reference to this feature in the brief notes to the latest firmware for the -I Series NVRs:
Latest HikVision Firmware for -I NVRs – new V4.1.65 (76XX, 77XX, 96XX NI-I)
e.g. it should work with -I Series NVRs running firmware V4.1.65 or newer

However, we noted that in the videos below they demonstrate it working with older firmware, showing the previous GUI 3 on a connected monitor, and also shown with a 7108 DVR running firmware V3.4.89 (released 16th September 2018).

And, PLEASE NOTE you need to make preparations in advance for the day you forget your password.
e.g. set a ‘Reserved email address’ to which a reset code can be sent when needed.
Cometh the day you don’t know your password, you will not then be able to login and set a reserved email address.

Our advice, don’t forget your password – in fact, do what we do and use a service such as LastPass to manage ALL your passwords!

How to Reset the Password of your Hikvision Camera/NVR in 5 steps using the SADP Tool

(IMPORTANT – We will only perform password resets for customers who bought the device they are resetting from us – use-IP Ltd – If you didn’t buy from us you will have to send your reset file to the company you did buy from)

Cybersecurity is a big issue for IP manufacturers at the moment and a key element of cybersecurity is the password and the resetting process, so in this guide we are going to take you through Hikvision’s secure process for resetting the password of your camera/NVR using the SADP Tool.

The process only takes 5 steps but will take quite a bit of time as emails have to be sent and received to complete the process, but we will talk more about this later in the guide, for now, lets start with:

Step 1: Open SADP and select the camera/NVR you want to reset by ticking the box next to the device on the left side of the list and then click the Forgot Password link at the bottom of the pop-out tab on the right of the SADP window.

Step 2: Click the Export button on the pop-up to export the reset file and then select a folder to save the file to that is easy to find

(IMPORTANT: Once you have exported the reset file the camera/NVR you are resetting must remain powered ON until the reset is complete)

Step 3: Open your emails and attach the reset file to a new email, send this file along with the information listed below to info@use-ip.co.uk — (We will only perform password resets for customers who bought the device they are resetting from us – use-IP Ltd – If you didn’t buy from us you will have to send your reset file to the company you did buy from)

After sending the file to us we will confirm you have bought from us and then pass the file on to Hikvision tech support who will then send a reset file to change the password, which we will then email back to you. This series of communications with Hikvision can take up to 24 hours, but often Hikvision support respond much quicker than that

Step 4: Download & save the new reset file from the email you received from us to an easy-to-find folder (we would recommend the same folder as the original exported file)

Step 5: Open SADP and return to the export pop-up from before, this time you will want to go to step 2 and tick the Import File box, then click the folder icon and find the reset file we just sent you, open it so file route appears in the box like below, finally enter the new password twice and then click Confirm

After clicking confirm a box should appear with a green tick and the words Reset Password Succeeded

With the password reset you can now open an Internet Explorer browser, search the IP address of the device and log in using the new password, once in you can then proceed to do what you like with the device (we would recommend checking your Firmware is up to date before you do anything else)

Hikvision’s SADP utility for 32-bit Mac users

Updated 4th April 2019 to clarify that there are 32/64-bit versions of this SADP utility for Macs.

Hikvision have just launched a new Apple Mac version (V3.0.0.3) of their SADP software, you can download it from their portal here:

Great to see this, as it will be very helpful for Mac owners to have access to a Mac version of this basic Hikvision utility.

How to Install SmartPSS in Windows with a Non-Administrator Account

Installing SmartPSS for a Non-Administrator Account

1. First step is to install SmartPSS using an admin account in Windows. After SmartPSS was installed under the admin, you can then logged out of the admin, and log into a “standard user” account that will be using SmartPSS without admin credentials. All the steps below were done using the “standard user” account, but the first time you run the shortcut, you will need to know the admin credentials.

2. First, we need to make a manual shortcut for SmartPSS so we can add our syntax. Right click on the desktop, choose new and then choose shortcut.

3. You will get a screen that asks you to choose the file location. Click on the browse button and then navigate to the SmartPSS.exe. The default location is C:\Program Files\Smart Professional Surveillance System\SmartPSS\SmartPSS.exe. Once you locate the file, click ok.

4. Once you navigate to the file and click ok, it will add the location in the location bar.

5. Now you want to take the example syntax and modify it to match your computer name and username. As an example our computer name is DahuaCan and our admin account username is admin. So in the next screenshot you can see we modified the syntax to include our computer name and username. Now you want to add that syntax to the beginning of the location. After you fill that in like the screenshot below and click next, give your Shortcut a name. I called ours SmartPSS as Admin.

6. Now you want to double click on the new SmartPSS shortcut, and you will get a command line pop up. All you need to do is type in the password for the main Admin account. Of note, when you type in the password the line does not move and there is no indication that you are typing anything into the command prompt, this is normal. Make sure to type it in carefully and then click enter.

7. After you click Enter, it should then run SmartPSS using those admin credentials. Those credentials are now saved, so even if you close SmartPSS, even if you log out of the user account or reboot the computer, you can just click on the shortcut on the desktop and it will always use the credentials you already provided it. Your shortcut should now be good to go for that user. If you want to know how to change the shortcut icon, you can continue onto the following steps.

8. Right click the shortcut, then choose change icon like in the screenshots below. It may give you an error about no icons being available. Just click ok. Now navigate your way to the SmartPSS folder again, choose the SmartPSS executable. Now on the next screen it will give you the SmartPSS icon. Choose it and click ok. Now your shortcut will have the proper icon.

Add DVR/NVR to SmartPSS(IP)

This allows you to add and view NVR/HCVR to SmartPSS using IP address.

2) Select “Add Map” → Name Map → Find File of Map to be used → Map description → click “Save” and Map will be come into view.

3) On the top left select the “Edit tab”. This will allow to add cameras to the E-Map

4) On the right-hand side you will see a list of recorders and cameras to select. Choose recorder → choose cameras → click on camera to highlight. You may now drag the chosen camera to any part of the map or floor plan. Note: you must be on the edit tab to select cameras to drag onto the map.

5) From the “View” tab, on the map you can double click on the cameras to view live stream. You may view multiple cameras simultaneously.

How to Setup Smart Track in SmartPSS

1. From the Smart Pss home page select Live View.

2. On the right hand side select and click on device > right click to bring up sub menu > Select “Smart Track Config” which will bring you to the Smart Track Config Menu.

3.To ensure linkage accuracy, please set at least three groups of calibration points > Click “Add” to set calibration points. > Click “OK”

1. Launch SmartPSS and click, “PC-NVR”

2. Click the power button on the right to turn PC-NVR on.

4. Click the device you wish to setup to record.

5. Click on the check box below the image.

6. Click, “Import”

7. Click, “Disk Management” on the left hand side. In this section, you can allocate a specific portion of your computer’s hard drive to be used for recording video directly from your device.

8. Input the amount of space that you wish to allocate in gigabytes, and click “Allocate” After a brief moment PC-NVR will restart.

9. Verify that the, “Status” is displaying as, “Online”

10. Click, “Record Plan” on the left hand side.

11. On this page you can configure the recording schedule for your device. In this example, the device is configured to record every day of the week all day long on Schedule and Motion recording.

12. Once complete, click, “Save” at the bottom of this page.

How to Configure SmartPSS 2.0 to Record IP Camera Feed / PC-NVR Setup

1. Launch SmartPSS and click, “PC-NVR”

2. Select “Here”

3. Select Search

4. Find PC-NVR-V3.0, check the box on the left and click Add.

5. Enter in the username and password for PCNVR 3.0.

6. Check if each device is online and added properly.

7. Now Select + at the top of the screen and then select PC NVR again.

8. Select the HDD tab in the right hand column, then select Allocate on the HDD you want to use. Notice the option to Overwrite the HDD or make these read only.

9. Select OK to proceed with erasing and allocating the empty portion of the drive.

10. Select the Channel Management tab in the right hand column.

11. Now check any network device to be recorded and then select the right arrow button and then save to add them.

12. Select Record Plan tab in the right hand column once these devices have been added.

13. Select the gear icon on the right to set the parameters of the record schedule, and then select ok and then save.

14. Select ok, thne select + at the top of the screen to add a new tab.

15. Select Playback.

16. Now under the PC-NVR 3.0 select the device to search for recorded video. Select Search and press play. The recorded video will open in the first available window. The Type of recording and time of recording will take place towards the bottom of the screen. The Green area in this picture represents what regular recording will look like.

17. This is what the playback of the PC-NVR 3.0 should look like.
