How to Download and Prepare Firmware

Description

This guide will show how to download and prepare the firmware file for a Dahua device.

Firmware files for Dahua devices can be found at Firmware by Device or the specific product page for the device

Firmware is typical provided in a ZIP file, a compressed file format

This file will contain the actual firmware file, which needs to be extracted from the ZIP file in preparation for the upgrade

Step by Step Instructions

Confirm the Model and current firmware of Dahua device

1. Enter the IP of the device into a browser

At the Web Login

Enter the Username and Password

Click Login

2. Click Info

3. Click Version

The Device Type will be displayed

The current System Version will be displayed

Download the firmware file for device from DahuaWiki

4. In a browser go to DahuaWiki.com

Under Specifications, Firmware, & Manuals

Click the device type (in this example Recorder)

5. Enter the device model into the field

6. The results will be filtered

7. Click the firmware icon to download the firmware file

8. The file will download

Extract the firmware file to local computer

9. Right click the Start Menu / Windows icon in the bottom left of the screen

Select File Explorer

10. Select Desktop

11. Click Home

Then click New folder to create a new folder to extract the contents of the firmware zip file

12. Find the created folder in the list, double click to open

13. Under the Downloads window of the browser, click ‘Show in folder’

A new File Explorer window should open containing the directory the firmware zip was downloaded to

Locate the file in the list

14. Right click

Select Cut

15. Select the window with the new directory

Right click in the window

Select Paste

The folder will appear in the directory

16. Right click the file

17. The contents of the zip file will appear in a new window

18. Click to select all files in the folder

Drag and drop the files to the created folder

The files will appear in the directory

The firmware file will appear in the directory ready to use

How to Reset Device to Factory Default

Latest Dahua firmware 2024

Step by Step Instructions

1. From Live View

Right click select Main Menu

2. Under Setting

Click System

3. Click Default

4. Click Factory Reset

5. A prompt will appear to confirm the factory default

Click Yes

6. The unit will default and reboot

7. When the device has booted back up it will be factory reset and is now ready for device initialization

Single Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the device you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for that device in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the device you want to upgrade in the list and click on the Folder icon next to it under the Upgrade File Path column

4. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

5. Verify the file path is listed next to the device in the list.
Then click on the Upgrade icon to the right of the device in the Operate column

6. Click on OK

7. The progress bar will fill up as the device is upgraded

8. Once the device has been successfully upgraded you will see a Green Check Mark next to it in the list

Batch Device Upgrade

1. Open ConfigTool and click on Search Setting at the top

2. Check the boxes for both Current Segment Search and Other Segment Search.
Enter the IP range for the devices you are looking for in Start IP and End IP.
Enter the login information for those devices in Username and Password.
Then click OK at the bottom

3. Click on Device Upgrade on the left.
Find the devices you want to upgrade in the list and check the boxes next to them. (Make sure all devices you check require the same firmware.)
Then click on Batch Upgrade at the top

4. Click on OK

5. Click on Browse

6. Use the file explorer to find the firmware file on your computer and select it.
Then click on Open

7. Click OK at the bottom

8. The progress bars will fill up as the devices are upgraded

9. Once the devices have been successfully upgraded you will see Green Check Marks next to them in the list

Recorder Firmware Update via Online

Description

This page will show you how to update your Dahua Recorder online.

Note: All devices should be “Factory Reset” once the firmware update is complete.

When the NVR detects there is a newer firmware in the server, a ‘1′ icon will appear at the System icon.

The entire process takes about 5 minutes depending on network connection.

4. The upgrade menu will show if a new firmware version is available

5. Click Upgrade Now to begin the update process

7. The firmware file will begin to download

8. After the download is complete the unit will automatically begin the firmware upgrade

9. The unit will reboot as the final step of the upgrade

10. Once the firmware update is complete the unit will reboot. A factory default is recommended after a firmware update

Step by Step Instructions

1. Log into the web interface of the NVR
Then select Setting at the top left
Select Network from the drop-down

2. Select Email from the list on the left

3. Check the box next to Enable
Input the following information into these fields:

• SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
• Port: 587
• Username: [Your Gmail email address]
• Sender: [Your Gmail email address]

4. Open a web browser and log into your Gmail account
Click the Account icon at the top right
Select Manage your Google Account

5. Select Security from the list on the left
If 2-Step Verification is already setup on your account, you will see it listed as “On”. If that is the case, skip to Step 7.
If 2-Step Verification is off, click the arrow to the right of 2-Step Verification under “Signing in to Google”

6. Select Get Started and then follow through all the steps to setup 2-Step Verification for your Gmail account

7. 2-Step Verification should now show “On” under “Signing in to Google”
Select the arrow to the right of App passwords

8. Click on Select app
Then select Mail from the drop-down

9. Click on Select device
Then select Other (Custom name) from the drop-down

10. Click on the field and type in “Dahua NVR” or another name that will help you associate this password with your NVR
Then select Generate

11. You will see a unique password that was generated for use with your NVR
Note this password for use in the next step

12. Go back to your NVR’s web interface, where you left off in Step 3
Enter the password that you got from Step 11 in the Password field

13. Make sure TLS is selected for Encryption Type if it is not already

14. Enter the email address you want to send these notifications to next to Receiver and then press the + button to the right
(The reciever email address(es) can be the same as the sending address or different)
Repeat this process for all email addresses you want notifications sent to

15. Enter the amount of seconds you want between each email notification in the field next to Sending Interval
If you want to recieve emails to verify the email notification system is still working, check the box next to Health Mail and enter how often you want those emails in the field next to Sending Interval

16. Click Apply at the bottom right to save your changes
Press the Test button on the bottom left to test notifications with the information you entered above
If the test is successful you will see a message at the top that says “Test succeded” and you will recieve a test email
If it says “Test Failed”, check all the information you entered above

How To: Set Up Email Notifications On A Hikvision Recorder

Purpose: The system can be configured to send an Email notification to all designated users if an alarm event is detected, etc., an alarm or motion event is detected or the administrator password is changed.

Before configuring the Email settings on your Hikvision camera or CCTV system, the NVR must be connected to a local area network (LAN)that maintains an SMTP mail server. The network must also be connected to either an intranet or the Internet depending on the location of the e-mail accounts to which you want to send notification.

Step:1. Enter the Network Settings interface. Menu >Configuration> Network

Step:2. Set the IPv4 Address, IPv4 Subnet Mask, IPv4 Gateway and the Preferred DNS Server in the Network Settings menu, as shown in Figure 1.1.

3. Click to apply save the settings.

4. Select the Email tab to enter the Email Settings interface.

5. Configure the following Email settings:

Enable Server Authentication (optional): Check the checkbox to enable the server authentication feature.

User Name: The user account of sender’s Email for SMTP server authentication

Password: The password of sender’s Email for SMTP server authentication.

SMTP Server: The SMTP Server IP address or host name (e.g., smtp.263xmail.com).

SMTP Port No: The SMTP port. The default TCP/IP port used for SMTP is 25.

Enable SSL (optional): Click the checkbox to enable SSL if required by the SMTP server.

Sender: The name of sender.

Sender’s Address: The Email address of sender.

Select Receivers: Select the receiver. Up to 3 receivers can be configured.

Receiver: The name of user to be notified.

Receiver’s Address: The Email address of user to be notified.

Enable Attached Pictures: Check the checkbox of Enable Attached Picture if you want tosend email with attached alarm images. The interval is the time of two adjacent alarm images.

You can also set SMTP port and enable SSL here.

Interval: The interval refers to the time between two actions of sending attached pictures

E-mail Test: Sends a test message to verify that the SMTP server can be reached.6. Click button to save the Email settings.7. You can click to test whether your Email settings work.

Reset Dahua Device Password Using ConfigTool

Description

These instructions will show how to reset the password of a Dahua device using ConfigTool on a local computer

• Dahua IP camera, connected to network
• Local computer , with ConfigTool installed

Step by Step Instructions

1. Open ConfigTool

Select “Password Reset” on the left.

Find the device in the list, and verify it has the XML reset option under “Support”.

Click the Reset button on the right

2. Click Agree

3. Select the Reset Mode drop-down and then select XML File

4. Click OK to confirm XML password reset method

5. The default location the XML file will be saved to is displayed. Click Browse Path to select a new location. Click Next

6. The ExportFile XML file will be created. Click OK to continue

7. This file will be used in the password reset process. Contact Dahua technical support via one of the methods HERE for the result file. Once you recieve the Result file, select Open and choose the file on your file system. Click Next

8. If the Result file is accepted, it will allow you to set the new password. Input a new password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields. Click Finish

9. If the password is successfully reset, you will see a Green Check Mark next to the camera in the list

Dahua Toolbox ConfigTool Locate Dahua Device

ConfigTool Template Setup

Description

You can create and apply the templates.

• Creating the template: Back up or save the video and encoding parameters for the device.
• Applying the template: Restore or batch configuring the video and encoding parameters for the device.

Please Note:

These instructions do not copy the network settings or email notifications.

Template Import/Export will work only between identical model devices

Export Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon with the two green arrows.

8. A prompt will pop up asking, “Export template from device?” click, “OK”

9. Locate the device you want to export the configuration of in the device list, and left click on it.

10. Click, “Export”

11. A prompt will pop up asking, “Export template from (IP Address of Device Selected), continue? Click, “OK”

12. Input a name into “Template Name”

13. Click, “Save as”

At this point ConfigTool crashed. I relaunched ConfigTool, and get, “Export Template Failed”

14. A prompt will pop up asking where you would like to save the file. Select where you would like to save the file, and click, “OK”

Import Device Config

1. Launch Toolbox, and login.

2. Download and install ConfigTool.

3. Launch ConfigTool.

4. Click Search Setting at the top of the window

5. Enter the credentials (username and password) for the device, then click OK

6. Click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side of ConfigTool.

7. Click on the Folder icon without the two green arrows.

8. A window will pop up, click, “Browse” and locate the Device Template file you backed up in the previous instructions.

9. Click on the Device Template file, then click, “Open”

11. The template settings should load and display in ConfigTool. Verify that all the settings are correct.

13. A window will pop up stating, “The file exists, do you want to overwrite it?” select, “OK”

Setting up a camera

2. Once opened select a camera manufacturer.

3. Select The Model of camera.

5. Select Focal Length of the camera.

6. Select the Viewing Angles, or the tilt angle of the camera.

12. The Enter PIN code prompt will appear. The PIN code will be the last 4 numbers of the S/N (serial number) which can be found on the actual device.

13. At the Enter PIN code prompt, enter the last 4 numbers of the Serial Number for the device then click Enter

From the main page of DahuaWiki:

2. Open or extract the zip file, and double click on the executable.

3. The installer will launch

• Select the language using the drop-down box
• Check the box to agree to the license agreement
• Click Next

4. In the next window you can select which components will be installed.

• SmartPSS – Leave this box checked to install SmartPSS
• Storage Service – Check this box if you wish to have your PC function as a recording device for your cameras.

Click Next

5. Choose where SmartPSS will be installed by clicking Browse

Click Next

6. The installation will begin

How to Install SmartPSS for OSX

Description

This tutorial is showing how to install SmartPSS on Mac computer.

1. Download SmartPSS

Link to Download “SmartPSS for Mac”

2. Go to downloads and select the SmartPSS file.

3. Highlight SmartPSS ➞ Right Click and a sub menu will show ➞ Click on Open.

4. The MAC OSx security will block the installation of the “SmartPSS_Beta” software.

5. Go to the “System Preferences” option, “General” and you will see at the bottom the option to “Open Anyway”.

6. After downloading the “SmartPSS” software move it from the download folder to the application folder.

7. Double click on the software to start the installation.

8. You will get this message when the installation is successful.

9. Double click on the “SmartPSS” icon. Setup a password.

10. Add a device.

11. Allow incoming network connections.

12. Congratulations, Software installed.
