How to Upgrade the firmware on DVR/NVR System?

This FAQ is for DVR/NVR, not for the camera.

There are 2 methods to upgrade the firmware of DVR/NVR. We suggest you use method 1. Please contact technical support to get an upgrading file first.

Here you can check the system’s current firmware build date. After upgrading, you can check if the build date changed.

Method 1

1. Copy the firmware file to a USB disk.

2. Insert USB disk to the USB port of DVR.

3. Go to the menu to upgrade.

Method 2

1. Connect your DVR/NVR to a router with a network cable.

2. Use a computer which also connected to the same router as DVR/NVR is connected to install upgrading software.

Client Downloading and Installation

Please visit https://xmeye.org/xmeye-for-pc/ to download and install the VMS Client following the setup wizard.

Add the DVR system to the Client

Option 1: Add the DVR system automatically

Please make sure the DVR system and your PC are connected with the same router.

Step 1:

Please log in to the client with the default User Name (admin) and Password (admin).

Step 2:

Click OK to add the DVR system automatically.

Step 3:

Tap YES on the pop-up window of “This operation may modify the device’s IP address, whether to continue?”

Step 4:

The DVR you added will be listed on the interface of Device Manager after 10s searching.

Invalid Password:

The VMS Client cannot load the password of the DVR system automatically, you need to modify it by clicking .

Connected:

The DVR system is ready to use.

Offline:

Please check if the DVR system and PC are connected to the same router.

Timeout:

Network may be disconnected, please click to refresh.

Option 2 : Add the DVR system manually

Step 1:

Click Manual Add at the lower left corner on the interface of Device Manager.

Step 2:

Change the Login Type from IP to CloudID and enter the required information on the interface of Add Device.

Device Name:

Set a name for the DVR.

CLOUD ID:

Also called Serial Number. You can get it from Startup Wizard or by accessing System > Version.

Password:

Enter the password you set for the DVR system.

Live Video

Please click Home > Live View to view the live videos from all channels.

Video Recording

You can go to Home > OPERATION > Record Settings to set the disk in which the video will be saved for VMS Client.

Please go to Home > ADVANCE > Record Plan to set the detailed record plan.

Notes:

Video Playback

Click Home > Playback to check all the videos recorded.

Check the box before the channel(s) you prefer, select Type of the video, select the Begin and End time, then click Search to list the filtered videos.

Double click on the selected video files to play the video or select one video file, then click button to play the video.

Video Downloading(Backup)

Stay on the interface of Video Playback, click to download the selected video, while click to download the video fragment by time period in this video file. The file you downloaded will be saved to the default path on the PC.

You can go to Home > SETTINGS > Systems Config to modify the path.

The format of the file you downloaded is H264 and the file is encrypted. It only can be played by the exclusive media player and you can download it from here

So… let’s see. There are 3G hotspots that have ethernet ports on them. You can contact the company that provides you with your 3G modem, and tell you that you need a 3G modem with both WiFi and Ethernet. In fact… they have a sales department trained just for this. You tell them how you want to set up your home… and they will provide you with the proper equipment. Cool, right?

Otherwise… you’d have to use a computer as a middleman. The computer would need to have both wireless and ethernet…. like many laptops. You’d connect the laptop to the modem via Wireless, and you’d connect the DVR to the laptop via the ethernet, and then you’d enable Internet Connection Sharing in Windows, and designate the Wireless as the Source. Then, while you have the laptop on, your DVR would connect to the internet.

You could also purchase a WiFi extender, as most have ethernet ports. Then, you follow the instructions to set up the WiFi extender to the 3G modem, and you connect the DVR to the ethernet port on the WiFi extender.

You could do some research on what WiFi routers can also be used as range extenders when you replace the firmware with DD-WRT… the list isn’t all that long, but it means it is *possible* to take an old Wireless Router and turn it into a range extender. If you just happened to have one of those models, I guess that would save you from spending money.

But…. you definitely need some intermediate device between the internet connection and the DVR.

How do I connect a CCTV DVR with a laptop using an HDMI cable?

A CCTV DVR is an analogue device so it uses baseband composite video. 9PAL or NTSC) at standard definition. You will need to find a video to HDMI converter if you really want to just view CCTV images on your laptop. You will still need to control the DVR locally via its remote control.

I abandoned DVRs some years ago.

A better approach is to replace the unit with a Network Video Recorder (NVR) that can be connected to your home network and can accept legacy SD video inputs from your cameras. Or you can go the whole way and upgrade your cameras to IP and connect them to your network directly via WiFi or Ethernet cabling.

Then you can access the NVR via Ethernet or via your WiFi to check recordings etc. It is also useful to add a “cloud key” that will allow secure access remotely from any external location via the Internet.

I have my CCTV surveillance integrated with my high speed home network using equipment provided by Ubiquiti. I can remotely access cameras at two properties using a Firefox or Chrome browser on my laptop and on my smartphone via the Ubiquity iOS video app.

There are lot of ways you can achieve this but let me talk on the simplest one.

By connecting the Ethernet port of your CCTV DVR to a switch and and hook up your PC to the same switch using RJ45 patch cable. Then go to the DVR network setup and set a static IP address if it is already enabled to use DHCP (dynamic Host Cofiguration Protocol). Set up something like this:

Save this and and restart your DVR for it to take effect.

Now head over to your PC Ethernet network configuration through control panel, go to your IPv4 and select “Use the following IP address”

Now enter something like this:

With this setting, the PC can successfully establish a link with the DVR through the gateway address.

Second Step:

Navigate to your internet explorer and type the DVR IP 192.168.001.010

you will be prompted to download an Active X, then follow the prompt and go to internet option on your internet explorer and enable the necessary Active X control, without doing this, you are not going to have your DVR web interface displayed properly.

Once you are done with it, you should be able to see the number of channels, use exact user account on the DVR to login on your PC if prompted.

You will see Main Stream and Sub Stream, click on your desire channel and select Main Stream since you are not on the internet.

How do I connect a CCTV DVR with the Internet using a 3G/4G data SIM?

If your DVR support 3G connection then you are good to go.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to provide you with pictures as DVR systems vary and I do not know your DVR brand.

First and foremost, I suggest you use Huwaei E303 dongle because it is one of the best dongle out there.

Make sure your sim card had already been provisioned for Data service by your ISP and don’t forget to obtain the APN details for your internet service.

Ensure cloud is enabled on your DVR by going through the setting icon.

Then head over to Network and look for the wireless service or 3G depending on the brand of your DVR.

Insert the 3G dongle to the back of your DVR and wait for the dongle to start blinking.

Select 3G and fill up the necessary information such as the APN details you got from the ISP.

After the settings, click save and restart, whenever the DVR is ready, you should see the dongle with a solid blue or green LED light showing that it is connected.

You should now be able to view your DVR online after the necessary remote view app installation and right configuration.

Operation processes with remote controller to control multi-DVR

The default device ID of the DVR is 0. It’s not necessary to reset the device ID when a remote is to be used to control a single DVR. However when controlling multiple DVRs with multiple remote controllers, you would need to configure the device ID, please refer to below steps:

Activate remote controller to control the DVR: Turn the IR sensor of the remote controller towards the IR receiver on the front panel, press the “ADD” button on the remote, then input device ID of the DVR to be controlled (Range from: 0-998; the default device ID is 000) and press MENU to confirm.

You can check the device ID of a DVR from Main Menu – System – General – DVR No. You can also set multiple DVRs with the same device ID however this can cause interference if the DVRs are kept close to each other.

It supports USB mouse through the ports on the rear panel.

NOTE: If mouse is not detected or doesn’t work, check below steps:

During live: Double-click on any camera window for the full screen mode. Double-click again to return to the previous screen mode. Right click to reveal the control menu on the screen.

In Configuration: Click to enter a particular option. Right click to cancel the option or to return to the previous menu.

In order to input a value in a particular screen, move cursor to the input box and click. An input window will appear. It supports digits, alphabets and symbols as inputs. Click  or  to input Capital letters and symbols;

You can change some values using the mouse wheel, such as time. Move cursor onto the value and roll the wheel to change value.

It supports mouse drag. For e.g. setting up motion detection area, click customized, hold down the left button and drag to set motion detection area.

In Playback: Click to choose the options. Right click to return to live mode.

In Backup: Click to choose the options. Right click to return to previous picture.

Note: Mouse is the default tool for all operations unless an exception, as indicated.

Before you power on the unit, please make sure all the connection is good.

Power on the DVR

Step1: connect the DVR with the power socket via the power adapter. Step2: the device will be loaded, and the power indicator will display blue. Step3: before start, a wizard/guide dialogue box will pop-up and show some information about time zone and time setup, etc.

Note:

The  wizard  guide  will  take  you  to  the  settings  on  the

Time/Language/Network Test, just follow the on-screen instruction and click the Next Button. If you do not wish to get the pop-up dialogue box each time you turn on your DVR, you can also turn it off.

You can shut down the device by using the USB mouse.

.

Step1: Enter into Main Menu and select “Logout” – “Shut Down” icon. This will take you to a shutdown window.

Step2: Click Shutdown. Then the unit will power off after a while. Step3: Disconnect the power.

User can login or log off the DVR system.

The default user name is “admin”. There is no password, just leave it blank. For operational on changing password, adding or deleting users, please refer to section 4.5.2 Account.

Note: If you forget the password, contact us immediately. We have super password for your DVR, you can email us with the following information and we will send you a unique password: Your model number, the date/time display on your screen. Password varies from date to date.

Shortcut Menu

In the preview mode, right click your mouse to access the shortcut menu (on the right).

Choose Main Menu and log in, you should see this:

In preview mode, right-click and choose Guide.

The wizard guide will take you to the settings on the Time/Language/Network Test, just follow the on-screen instruction and click the Next Button. If you do not wish to get the pop-up dialogue box each time you turn on your DVR, you can also turn it off.

Clink Next to start the wizard setup guide, on the next dialogue box you will be able to configure the date and time for the DVR. Following the steps, you will be able to Enable/Disable the Summer Time, check the network status for the DVR, and download the APP: Xmeye. And use the Xmeye APP to scan the SN code of your DVR for remote access.

Note: For remote access, you can also refer to the Quick Setup Guide (the printed material) and follow the instruction which is simple and straightforward.

Check this box if you do not wish to get the wizard box each time you turn on the DVR. But it is recommended that you do not do so.

You can set the time zone, date and time, format, etc.

You can enable/disable the Summer Time. You can also set the Language here.

Network test: Make sure your DVR is connected with your router using a network cable. You should be able to see them showing as [OK] before you are able to remotely access the DVR. If you do not see the OK status for Gateway, Network, DNS, Click “Network”. And enable DHCP. And try again.

Enable DHCP, and click OK, go back to test the network again, till you see [OK] for Gateway/Network/DHCP.

In Preview Mode, right click your mouse and choose Record Mode. You can also go to Record Mode from “Main Menu” – “Record” – “Record Config”, from there you will see more available setting options.

On the Ref. screen, “○” means unselected, “●” means selected. The screenshot (on the right side) shows all channels are set at Schedule Recording mode.

【Schedule】This allows you to set up flexible recording schedules for daily or weekly recording.

【Manual】Channel camera will record continuously after you set it at Manual.

【Stop】Channel camera will stop recording regardless of any actions.

To go to playback mode, Right click the mouse and choose Playback. You can also go from: “Main Menu” – “Record” – “Playback”.
