IP Cameras: What to Look For

Solink support can identify what type of camera you have. IP cameras usually have one Ethernet cable connected to the camera.

These types of cameras optimize connection by getting power (Power over Ethernet, or POE for short) and transmitting data (sending data to the Solink system) over a single cable. A typical IP camera and Ethernet connection looks like this:

Each camera will have an Ethernet cable that connects into a POE switch. In most environments, the switch will look similar to the following:

How to Troubleshoot an Offline IP Camera

Once you have found the POE switch, ensure that:

• All connections are securely fastened.

• The POE switch has lights for each cable (both on the cable, and on the LED panel on the front – normally, each port has one light for Link, and one for POE.

• No cables have broken ends/clips.

If everything is connected tightly and all cables have lights, you can attempt to restart the POE switch. Sometimes, a camera may become “frozen” and need a physical reboot.

Note: If you know which cable goes to the specific camera you need to troubleshoot, you can unplug and replug the cable. This is the same as rebooting the switch. Rebooting the POE switch causes all cameras to go offline for a short period of time until it powers back up fully.

If the camera still does not come back online after a physical reboot, it is possible that there is an issue on the camera end – either the cable is broken between the switch and the camera, the cable is unplugged at the camera side, or the camera itself has physical damage or defects. Solink support can assist with confirming this.

Analog Cameras – What to Look For

Solink support can identify if your cameras are analog. Analog cameras usually have 2-3 cables attached – one for power, one for video signal, and one (optional) for an audio signal.

If your cameras are analog, Solink supplies an analog encoder to your location. This device converts the old analog signal into digital so that we can record it properly on our system. A standard analog encoder is displayed in the following image:

Your analog camera video cables are connected to the rear side of the encoder.

The power cables for your analog cameras are usually wired to a CCTV power supply box, or are plugged into a UPS. The image below displays an example of a CCTV power supply box:

How to Troubleshoot an Offline Analog Camera

If an analog camera is offline, you will either see NO VIDEO text on the Solink interface (and Live Monitor, if applicable), or a black screen for some models. In this case, check the following:

• Ensure all cables are properly connected to the analog encoder. BNC cables are round and silver and connect to the rear side of the encoder.

• Ensure that the CCTV power supply is either plugged in properly; or if you are using a breaker box, ensure it is powered on and there are lights on all connections within the box.

If all cables are tightly connected and power seems to be working for all cameras, you may require an on-site technician. It is possible that the cabling, cable ends (BNC), power supply, or the camera itself has an issue or defect. Solink support can assist.

If you encounter any of the following issues, please read the instructions in this section to attempt to troubleshoot the issue or reach out to our support team via live chat, phone or email.

No Input/Blank Screen

If the live monitor displays no input or a blank screen, try troubleshooting the issue with the following steps:

3. Reboot the HDMI/VGA adapter (the device shown in the following image). To reboot this device:

• Locate the VGA/HDMI adapter on the cord between the recording device and the monitor.

• Unplug both sides of the cord and wait 20-30 seconds.

Frozen Cameras

If any cameras are frozen on your live monitor, try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

2.Each of your locations display the number of online cameras. Additionally, if you hover over a location, a health indicator displays to inform you of any offline cameras. Please connect your phone to the WiFi network first.

Please power on the camera, wait about 30s until the reboot of the camera is finished, then the camera will issue voice promp for WiFi configuration( If the camera doesn’t issue the voice prompt, please reset the camera.

Reset method: Locate the RESET hole next to the network cable port on the back of the camera, and press and hold the button in the hole for about 10 seconds to restore the factory Settings. After successful reset, there will be a prompt “Reset completed, will reset the device”).

Scan QR Code

1. Enter the APP, click the “+” icon on the top right corner of the homepage, to scan the QR code on the camera’s body;

2. Once the camera says “Please use APP for WiFi configuration” for the first time, please click on the “Heard voice prompt” button, then put in the password of the WiFi network that the mobile phone currently connecting to, click ‘OK’ to go to next step.

Note: Please ensure that there is no space or any special characters in the WiFi password, and the password is entered correctly, otherwise the camera will not be able to connect.

3. Click the ‘Send’ button on the APP, to send configuration signal to the camera.

Note: Place the phone close to the camera, and adjust the phone volume to the maximum.

4. About 30 seconds after the camera prompts “wireless configuration succeed” , the binding window will pop up, click “Add it” to complete the connection.

Note: During this process, if it prompt that WiFi is configured successfully but the binding page does not pop up, please click the “binding” in the lower section of the searching page, to add the camera.

5. This device is a pet camera. After successfully bound, you can choose the mode of “Play Pet Cam” or click “OK” to jump to the home page of the APP.

Note: Each time you enter the real-time video page, the “Pet Cam” function will be automatically opened. When you leave this page, this function will be automatically closed. Drag the cradle head to control the “Pet Cam”.

How does the‘ Pet Cam’ button work?

After the‘ Pet Cam’ is opened, the head of the camera will emit a red laser beam. You can tap the PT icon or slide the camera’s picture to move the beam and play with your pet.

To enable this function from the home page of the APP, click the play button in the camera screen to enter the real-time video screen, and the “Pet Cam” function will automatically open.

Note: Laser irradiation is harmful to human eyes, so do not irradiate the laser head directly to human eyes. Also, keep children away from beams of light for safety reasons

Other ways of adding

If no QR code can be found on the body of the camera, or it fai led to connect the camera by scanning Q R code, please choose the ‘Others ‘ method to connect the camera.

Method One : Wireless Installation

1. Enter the APP, click the “+” icon on the top right corner of the homepage, tap ‘Others’→IP Camera.
2. Choose ‘Wireless Installation’, please refer to the ‘Wireless configuration add instructions’ on the APP and the APP’s voice prompt to finish the setting.

Note: Please refer to the ②③④ steps in the chapter ‘Scan QR code’ to finish the’Wireless Installation’ settings.

If the wireless configuration fails, please refer to one of the following methods to connect the camera.

Please power on the camera, and use a network cable to connect the camera to one of the LAN ports on the router.

Please make sure the phone and camera are under the same router.

Please connect the network cable

Method Two: Search in LAN

1. Login the APP, click the “+” icon on the top right corner of the homepage, tap ‘Others’ →IP Camera.

Click on “Search in LAN”, you can find all the available cameras in the same router with the smartphone（. Note：Cameras that has been added successfully in this account will not be searched again）.

2. The binding page will pop up after about 30 seconds. If the search times out, please try again or return to the Add Device page and select Manually add.

Method Three: Manually add

After select “Manually add”, please input camera’s UID ( 15 characters, can be found on the label stick to the camera’s body), or scan the QR code on the camera’s bottom sticker, the UID will be auto filled in, then put in the camera’s password to connect the camera.

Note: After the camera has been added by Search in LAN or Manually Add, if you want to make the camera work in WiFi mode, please follow the steps below:

1. In the home page of the APP, click the”“on the top right corner of the camera →choose “Settings →WiFi”, select the WiFi that the smartphone / tablet connecting to, then input WiFi password, click on “done”.

2. Wait until the APP/Camera prompt’ please remove the network cable, camera will restart ’ , remove the network cable(Keep the camera powered on).

Unplug the network cable,camera will reboot automatically…

Note： If setup failed, please refer to network cable connection method or change a router to setup again.

Cloud Storage

The camera supports cloud storage function（ Only for regions where cloud storage has been enabled ）. After the cloud storage function is activated, once the camera detects moving objects, it will record video to cloud server, for users’ checking at any time.

How to activate the cloud storage service?

Click the on the top right corner of the camera, select “cloud storage“. Click “activation” to open the cloud storage service.

How to view cloud storage video?

How to renew the cloud service

It requires to renew the cloud service when it is expired.

Click the icon in the upper right corner of the cloud storage interface, to open the renewal interface.

Click the “Renewal” option at the top left corner or the bottom of the interface to bring up the service package details. You can choose the package according to your needs.

Note: there are two types of “video preservation (circulation)” : 7 days and 30 days.

The 7-day cycle means that the video can be saved for 7 days, and the 30-day cycle means that the video can be saved for 30 days. After that, the video will be covered in order. 1 month, 6 months and 12 months of service pack is optional.

Account login failed, appear “ unknown error”

Generally speaking, this kind of problem is related to the compatibility between the APP and the phone or computer. The solution are as follows:

1. APP for PC client: Please uninstall the APP(completely remove it from your computer’s local disk, desktop and control panel→program), then download and install a new one and then login APP again.

Note：Please don’t use the default path when download and install the eye4 software, choose a different disk to place it.

2. APP for Smart Phone: Please uninstall the APP, then download and install a new one. please check whether the APP is blocked by any security software, such as Security steward, 360 anti-virus software etc.

3. This problem can also be caused by the server, so if the above two methods don’t work, then please wait for the sever to be repaired and try again later. Thanks!

Camera cannot connect after the password of the WiFi changed

If the camera cannot connect after the WiFi password being changed, solution are as follows:

Step 1. To reset the camera to factory default settings. You can do that by referring to the guide below:

Please reset it as the following way:

Please power on the camera, use a pin or pencil to hold the ‘reset’ button for 10~~30 seconds, then the camera will say ‘reset completed, device will reboot!’, then there would be a clicking sound, all the IR LEDs will be on for a while and then off, then the camera start to do self-checking(pan/tilt), after the pan/tilt finished, the reset finished.

Outdoor camera:

Please reset it as the following way:

Please power on the camera, use a pin or pencil to hold the ‘reset’ button for 10~~30 seconds, then you will hear a clicking sound from the camera, all the IR LEDs will be on for a while and then off, and you will hear another clicking sound, that means the reset has been finished and it’s rebooting.

Step 2. Re-configure the “ wireless settings ” on the camera

Camera displayed offline after replaced the Router

After replaced the router, the camera will display offline. The reasons is that the camera is connected to the previous WiFi network, can’t switch to new WiFi network automatically. We need to setup the new WiFi to the camera. The steps are as follows:

Step 1. To reset the camera to factory settings by referring to the reset guide.

Step 2. After that, please re-configure the camera’s wireless according to the new WiFi network

Note: Before configure the camera to the new WiFi router, we need to reset the camera to factory default.

Camera reboot automatically from time to time

The problem of camera reboot automatically from time to time is generally caused by network or firmware problem, not caused by hardware.

The solutions are as follows:

Method 1. Network factors

Please check whether there is IP address conflict. Please download IP Camera Finder from the webpage (http://www.eye4.so/download/), then open the Finder, to see if the IP address is overlapped in camera list. If the IP address conflicted with other cameras, please modify the IP to a different static IP.

Method 2. Upgrade camera’s firmware to the latest version

If the above methods does not work, it probably caused by hardware problems, please contact the direct dealer for maintenance.

Can camera realize remote wireless connection?

In PC client, the camera can realize remote wireless connection. You can refer to chapter 8 in the [IP Camera PC Client Function Detailed Instructions](page 9 to 10) to setup the WiFi. However, in Phone APP, we cannot setup WiFi connection remotely.

Can connect and view in LAN, but can not in WAN

The cause of the problem:

Generally speaking, the cause is that camera can not access the Internet (Camera cannot connect to internet), Please check whether the wireless router which the camera connected to is working properly. Make sure that you can access the internet when connected to the WiFi of the router.

Suggestions:

If the router is working fine, then please check the following information:

1. Check LAN connection. If you can view the camera in PC client, Phone APP and Web client, that means the LAN connection is fine. If you can’t view the camera in LAN, then we can’t view it in WAN.

2. If the camera can be viewed in LAN, please switch to mobile network, check whether the camera can be viewed normally.

3. If the camera cannot be viewed in mobile network, then please change a router to test again.

4. If the camera still can’t go online remotely after changing router, then it must be a problem of the camera’s PNP penetration. It is recommended that take the camera to other network environment to have a try, for example, your friend’s network.

5. If can view the camera normally in other network environment, that means there is a problem with the local penetration of the camera. Then we can not use the UID to access. In this case, please contact the dealer for help.

Note:

1. Please make sure the camera get the latest firmware and the APP is the latest one. If not, please update the firmware and APP to the latest version

2. Generally speaking, the issue that the camera can be connected and viewed in LAN, but can not in WAN is cause by software or server, instead of hardware problem, no need to return to factory for repair.

Can not get real-time video

If the camera is online and can Listen, Audio, PTZ control, but can’t display the real-time video, then it must be cause by hardware problems. The solutions are as follows:

1. Reset it to factory default settings, re-configure it and try again.

2. Upgrade the camera to latest firmware.

3. Run the camera in other client, such as PC client, Phone client, Web client, if all operations failed, then it must be hardware problem.

4. If none of the above methods work, then please contact the dealer for replacement or maintenance.

Can SD card automatically record after inserted

After inserted the SD card, the camera will automatically start loop recording, and will automatically overwrite the old recording files when full, do not need to do extra settings of recording.

If you want to cancel the recording, please select the “24 hours video” , check to remove, if you need to set the recording time, please use the Web client settings, more details, please refer to [IP camera Web client function instructions]

How to remotely download video files saved in SD card

If you want to download SD card video files to your phone local storage, please take the following steps.

Step1: open APP home page–>SD card records–>click download icon

Path to save recording:

Android phone: local storage–> DCIM–>Eye directory iOS phone: in local system album;

Cannot read SD card or check SD card’s memory size

The solutions are as follows:

1. Check whether it is inserted in the opposite direction.

2. After inserted, click “format SD card” (format it even if you cannot check SD card’s memory size), reboot camera and refresh it.

3. If the above steps do not work, please change a SD card,(please use genuine SD card), For example, Kingston SD Card, Class 4 and 10 is preferred.

Notes:

1. If the above methods does not work, you can check the TF card slot on the camera and the SD card. If it proved to be hardware problems, please contact the dealer for replacement.

2. Besides, please make sure the camera’s firmware and the APP is in the latest version. If not, please update to the latest one.

Forget the Camera Password

Please reset the camera to factory default settings, the default password of the camera is 888888.

How to reset:

Power on camera, then find out the camera “ reset “ hole, use a pin or pencil to keep pressing the button for about 15 seconds until camera reboot, then the camera will be reset successfully.

Forget App Account and Password

If you forgot the password, click “ forget your password “ in Eye4 APP in PC or Phone, enter the email account bound the account, then you will get a verification mail, please follow the system prompts to change the password.

How long does the SD card record?

The following data is based on the test of video duration calculation of 64G TF card. The results will be different in different scenarios. For example, recording for static and dynamic picture are not the same. If you set different parameters, the results may different. The data is calculated on the camera’s default stream settings, just for your reference.

1. It can record 16 days when C38 is in 720P mode.

2. It can record 18 days when C7815WIP is in 720P mode.

3. It can record 14 days when C37A is in 960P mode.

4. It can record 10 days when C50S is in 1080P mode.

5. It can record 8 days when C38S is in 1080P mode.

Note: You can choose high-bit stream or low stream image, they take different amount of capacity. Please refer to the specific settings [IP Camera Web Client Function Instructions] SD card record settings

IP camera screen blurred , color cast

If your camera’s screen blurred or it’s color cast, please follow the guide below:

1. Please reboot camera a few times, or restore cameras to factory default settings, after that, it will be back to normal.

2. If the problem occur again and again, then it probably cause by camera’s sensor problem, please contact dealer or sale man for maintenance or replacement

Lens screen blurred, the screen is not clear or color cast

If you got such kind of problem, please try the following ways:

1. For Pan & tilt Cameras. Please turn the lens slowly until the picture turned clear.

2. Make sure the inner and outer surface of the lens’ are clean, if not, please clean them with a soft cloth.

3. If there is color cast, please login the PC or Web client, to adjust the contrast, brightness, saturation. [You can also try to restore it to factory setting or reboot camera a few times, to see if it works. If the issue happen again and again, then it must be hardware problem.]

Note: If the above ways do not work, it must be something wrong with the sensor in lens board, please contact the direct dealer or salesmen for warranty.

What is the wireless distance between Camera and Router

The distance depends on the wireless signal strength of the router.

1. At present, VStarcam IP cameras support 2.4G frequency bandwidth wireless router, don’t support 5G frequency bandwidth.

2. It is recommended to keep the distance within 10 meters.

Note: If the wireless signal of the router is weak, please connect the camera to the router with a network cable. Otherwise, It will make the camera offline.

Step 1:​

Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your NVR in the address bar. If you are not sure what this is, use the SADP tool to find it.​

Step 2:​

Log in to the NVR using the “admin” username and password you have set on it.​

Go to: Device Access > Device Configuration > PoE Settings​

If you are connecting your camera via the Plug-and-Play method, then make sure that Network Camera Plug-and-Play is enabled on the POE port you will be connecting the camera to on this page.​

For any camera with a cable run under 100m, leave the Network Cable Distance as Short Distance.​

If you are connecting your camera manually by IP address, disable the Network Camera Plug-and-Play option for the channel that you plan to add the camera to.​

Step 4:​

Go to: Device Access > Device > Video Device​

For any Plug-and-Play camera, just make sure that it is in its inactive default state and then connect it to the port you reserved in step 3. After 20 seconds or so, the camera Status should turn to Connecting and then Online (you may need to click on Refresh to see this).​

For Manually added cameras, if you can see the camera in the List of Online Devices section, then just tick the box for the camera and then click + Add to Device List, which will then automatically add it to one of the channels you disabled Plug-and-Play on in the last step.​

Alternatively…​

Click on +Add at the top of the page and fill out the fields as follows:​

IP Address: Enter the IP address of your camera, using the ‘Test’ button to verify there is a camera at that address. ​

Device Name: This can be anything you like, as it is the name the camera will show with on your NVR. ​

Protocol: Select the camera’s manufacturer from this list, or failing that, use the ONVIF protocol (your camera will need to have ONVIF enabled for this to work). ​

Management Port: Enter the Server port set on the camera, which you can find in the SADP tool or in Network>Basic Settings>Port in the camera’s web browser interface. If you haven’t changed this, it is usually 8000 by default. ​

User Name: “admin” or the username of any other users set up on that camera. ​

Password: The password set with that user on the camera – if this is the same as the ‘Default Activation Password‘ you have set on the NVR, then you can tick this box instead. ​

Transfer Protocol: ‘Auto’ is normally best. ​

How do I reset my Hikvision device to factory settings?

In some cases, you’ll need to reset your Hikvision device to its inactive factory state. This could be if you’re passing the system on to somebody else; if you’ve forgotten your password; or simply if something has gone wrong during the configuration, meaning you need to start afresh.

There are a couple of ways of doing this, the method you’ll use depends on whether you have a password to log into the device.

Factory reset by using the device’s pushbutton:

On the majority of Hikvision’s newer camera models, there will be a pushbutton on the camera which will allow to carry out a hard reset without needing to log into it. This is most useful when you have forgotten your password, as it allows you to set a new password on the camera while avoiding much of the faff involved in doing this through the SADP tool.

The Optiview VMS 2018 will continue to be available to download for a limited amount of time, but will no longer be supported going forward.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DEVICES THAT CAN BE PUT ON THE FREE VMX OR THE PAID VMX+?

HOW DO I UPGRADE FROM THE VMS TO THE VMX?

The VMX software is completely different from the Optiview VMS and a user can use both. The VMX Server and Client software can be downloaded here.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE VMX SERVER AND THE VMX CLIENT?

The server runs all the services and acts as a connection point for several clients that will handle the management of configurations, devices and integrations of one or more IP devices supported by the Optiview VMX software.

IF I HAVE THE SERVER DOWNLOADED, HOW DO I DOWNLOAD THE CLIENT?

The client can be downloaded using the link from the server user interface labeled as “Download Client”. I also made a link for the Client software within our technical support page which Georgia can use, to make a download link within the product resource page.

CAN I DESIGNATE THE NUMBER OF CAMERA CHANNELS BEING SEEN BY THE VMX PER DVR OR NVR?

Yes. The number of cameras “actually” in use by a device (for example a 32-ch NVR) can be designated within the VMX so that it can only sees the actual number of channels. For example, If a user is using multiple 32 channel recorders but not all channels, the VMX can be set to not count every single channel and maximize the usage.

CAN I DESIGNATE THE NUMBER OF ACCESS CONTROL DOORS BEING SEEN BY THE VMX?

No. Whatever the maximum number of doors that an access control panel can handle is, that is what the VMX will see. For example, a CAS-4MC (4 door master control panel) is expandable up to 64 doors, so this will max out the VMX. No additional master control panels can be added unless the user upgrades to the paid version of the Optiview VMX.

CAN I SEE THE HUMAN TEMPERATURE DETECTION & NOTIFICATION SOLUTION ON THE VMX?

The human temperature text overlay can be seen at LIVE mode and Playback mode at the VMX.

HOW MANY USERS CAN ACCESS THE VMX AT ONE TIME?

Camera can’t connect to wifi

1, please confirm wifi is 2.4G or 5G, the camera only support 2.4G. And wifi password cannot exceed 12 characters.

2, if it is 4G wifi, please place the camera next to the router, then press the reset button for 6 seconds to add device again.

3, or you can connect the camera to your router with network cable, then switch to wirelessly connection.

How to using PTZ function on NVR?

1, please left click your mouse, you will see a smart menu below, click PTZ control.

How to setup motion tracking

If you add camera to NVR, please go to video detection to check whether your nvr support motion tracking.

Usually, NVR not support motion tracking, you need to add camera to the app Eseecloud, then add to NVR, so that you can setup motion tracking on the app.

Fixed-point cruise on NVR

1) Right click the mouse–system setup–channel setup–PTZ setup. select correct channel. Add first cruise point,

2) click add to set first position (the default is 1, which does not need to be changed),

3) then click preset box select 2–add, add multiple cruise points in this way. You also can select “keep time” you want, preferably in five seconds or more.

4) And then click “?” question mark into the PTZ control interface–click PTZ control option to set first position, then click store.

5) change the preset box to 2, adjust the camera lens to second position–store

6) right click anywhere –return to the PTZ setting interface–apply—ok.

After connect to mobile phone, camera showing “wrong password” on NVR.

If you are adding camera to your mobile phone through camera hotspot , it will generate a random password.

1, Go to app Eseecloud, click three points icon on right upper corner, click edit. Fast click 6 times on blank area,

you will see random password.

2, Go to NVR, right click mouse—video manage—manial edit.

3, select channel—input random password, click ok,

If still showing connecting fail, please click match code to match camera.

The camera will turn to the wall or the ground

1. Please confirm whether to manually rotate the camera lens. If so, the camera will not return to its original position after restarting or automatic tracking.

please unplug the power adapter, then plug it in again, click PTZ on the mobile app or NVR to control the camera lens.

2. If you do not turn the camera manually, please tell us your camera ID number and version information, and we will feed back to our technical support.

Network Setup for NVR/DVR/IP Camera before adding to Guarding Vision

The Following network settings must be checked before adding the device to Guarding vision App.

Method 1: From NVR Local menu

Step 1: Right Click on the NVR Monitor and select “Menu”.

Step 2: Select “Configuration” from the Menu options.

Step 3: Select “Network” and check the option “Enable DHCP” Click “Apply”

Step 4: Make sure your NVR/DVR obtained an “IPV4 Address” and “Preferred DNS Server” values automatically. If not, check your network settings and make sure your device is properly connected to your network router or switch.

Step 5: Select “Platform Access” and check “Enable”.  You will be taken to the service terms window.

Step 6: Create a “Verification Code” check the “Guarding Vision service terms” click “OK”.

Step 7: Click “Apply” to apply the settings. The status will change to “Online”. The QR Code being displayed on your device “Platform Access” page can be scanned with Guarding Vision app to add the device into your App. To proceed with adding the device into the app scroll down to “Adding NVR/DVR to Guarding Vision App”.

How to Change Camera names on the App

Step 1: Open browser (Internet explorer/Chrome) and input the address www.guardingvision.com. And click on “Register” to register for a new account.

Step 2: In the registration page, input the mandatory credentials and select “Email” for registering with email or “Country Code” for registering by a phone number.

Step 3: Once the account is created, select “Device Management” and select “Add” to add a new device.

Step 4: In the “Add Device” pop-up window, input the device serial number (Last 9 digits of the serial number found on the device sticker) and click on “Search”.

Step 5: If the platform access is enabled on the device, then you should see the device on the “Add device” window. Click on the ‘+’ icon for the device. Click on the link for Enabling “Platform Access” https://app.box.com/s/ftj2keo6pvvvkpif9ukquyp7jrvhktwx.

Step 6: Enter the verification code found on the platform access page of the device. Click “Add”.

Platform Access for Guarding Vision Offilne Issue

Guarding Vision Offline Issue

Purpose:

This document provides steps to fix the Platform Access “Offline” status issue on your NVR/DVR.

Solution:

The most common cause for “Offline” status is when the “Preferred DNS Server” space is empty. Follow the steps below to fix this issue.

NVR Local menu

Step 1: On the monitor connected to the NVR, Right click and go to Menu  Configuration  Network  General

Step 2: Enter the “Preferred DNS server” address as 8.8.8.8

(Note: If “Enable DHCP” is checked, you can check the option “Enable DNS DHCP” which will let the NVR/DVR pullup its own Preferred DNS Server)

Step 3: Click “Apply”. The device might take a few seconds before applying the new values.

Step 4: Now go to Menu  Configuration  Network  Platform Access. The status should show “Online”. The device might take up to 60 sec before showing the new status. Click “Back” wait 60 sec and check the status again.

(Note: You can scan the QR code on your “Platform Access” page to add the device directly to your Guarding Vision App.)

Setting up the DVR/NVR

Step 1: On the DVR/NVR screen, right click Select Menu  Configuration  Network.

When sharing, make sure the Phone number/email/username are entered as shown in the account details.

Step 1: Log in to the IP Camera with internet explorer and Go to Configuration  Network  Advanced Settings  Platform Access

Step 3: Create a name for the device by typing in the “Alias” option.

• Input the “IP address” of the device and the login Credentials. Tap on  icon on the top right to save the values entered.

(Note: If you have a device with a port forwarded IP address, you can enter that public IP address in the address space with the device login credentials.)

How To Upgrade Blue Iris Demo Software With An Amcrest License Without Losing Settings

If you are currently using a demo version of the Amcrest Blue Iris software upgrading your account will not reset your settings. All settings will be retained on the software after the upgrade is complete. For more information on how to upgrade your demo version of Blue Iris to paid version, please follow the steps provided below.

Step 1: Open your Blue Iris software and click on the Settings option (  ) in the upper left corner of the interface and click on Settings/info.

Step 2: In the About tab, click on the Register now option.

Step 3: In the Activation screen, click Next

Step 4: Enter the Amcrest license number or key you have purchased into the activation box. Click Next to continue.

Step 5: Click Finish once the code has been activated.

Step 5: The new license key has now been applied to your Blue Iris software. The information can be viewed in the License Key section of the menu. Click OK to continue.

The “Evaluation Copy” overlay will be removed from the live view screen and your previous settings will be accessible throughout the software.

Blue Iris UI3 update Issue

If you are attempting to update to a new version of the Blue Iris software and receive an error such as:

this is not a result of a bug or issue with the software itself but is a result of an update made to Visual Studio C++ compiler which is the software used to build Blue Iris. To resolve the issue, a simple reinstall of the software will fix the problem, however, if you wish to resolve the issue without reinstalling the software, please refer to the information below.

A resolution will be based on the which version of Windows you are running. For instance, if you are operating on a 64-bit version of Windows you will need to search and run the VCREDIST_X64.exe to resolve the issue. If you have a 32 bit system you will run the VCREDIST_X32.exe.

If this file is not found on your computer you may run it from the following URL blueirissoftware.com/VCREDIST_X64.exe (or VCREDIST_X32.exe for 32 bit).

Step 1: Load the VCREDIST .exe file and click Run

Step 2: Click on Install.

Step 3: A restart of your computer will be required to complete the install. Click on Restart to restart your computer.

After your computer has finished restarting please load the Blue Iris software and run the update as normal. If this does not fix the issue a full re-install of the software may be required. To re-install the Blue Iris software on your computer, access the Control Panel and click on “Uninstall a program”.

Locate the Blue Iris Software from the Programs and Features list and click Uninstall. Select “Yes” to remove Blue Iris from your computer. For more information on how to install Blue Iris on your computer click

Note: It is recommended to not delete any registry entries or license activations during this process.

Click Finish, to restart your computer and complete the uninstall.

Blue Iris Not Automatically Starting up After a Crash?

If your Blue Iris software crashes or becomes unresponsive and the software does not restart automatically with its last settings displayed then the software may need to be ran as a Windows service. By default, Blue Iris 5 is not set to run as a Windows service so therefore would have to be implemented manually. For more information on how to set Blue Iris as a Windows service, refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Open Blue Iris 5 and click on the settings menu located in the upper left corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the Settings menu, click on the Startup tab.

Inside the Startup tab, make sure the “Use last window position” option is selected in the Window field then click on the “Run as a Windows service (no UI, run again for console)” checkbox. This will enable your software to run as a Windows service. Click OK to continue.

Step 3: The service will install automatically. Click OK to reboot or restart the Blue Iris software.

The software is now running as a Windows service which allows the software to reboot with last settings in tact after a crash or service interruption.

How to Add a Camera Into Blue Iris

The camera and the computer you are using must be on the same network during setup. Please make sure you are running the most current version of Blue Iris during setup. The latest version of Blue Iris can be downloaded here.

There are 2 ways to add a camera into Blue Iris. You can right click on the main menu, or click on the settings menu (  )in the top-left corner of the interface.

Adding a Camera

To begin, right-click on the main interface or click on the settings menu () to access the “New camera” menu.

In the new camera menu, give your camera a name, a short name (for URLs and filenames), choose a type, which in this case will be a Network IP, and enable any options such as, enabling audio, motion detection, etc. Click OK to continue.

This will open two windows. The top window will be Network IP Camera Configuration. Enter the address of your camera (IP Domain or DDNS as well as RTSP address) and click on the Find/Inspect… button on the right to confirm. Enter the username and password, select the make as Amcrest, select the model of your device (ProHD and HDseries cameras as “ProHD 1080p RTSP/HTTP”), and specify the RTSP and ONVIF ports.

Note: If you choose the other option profile, “ProHD/IP2/3/4/4M Mainstream RTSP” features such as PTZ or other related features may not be accessible. Please use ProHD 1080P RTSP/HTTP in the Model field.

After filling in the information required, click OK. The second window will appear titled New Camera. Here you can make many adjustments to the way you want Blue Iris to configure your camera.

The page is defaulted to the Video tab. The options available for adjustment are Image Format and Frame Rate, PTZ Controls, Recording through Blue Iris, Alerts through Blue Iris, and other features. Once you have finished adjusting any necessary settings, click on OK to add the camera. The live view screen of your camera will show in the interface.

How to Renew a Key in Blue Iris 5

Any expired keys in the Blue Iris 5 software will cause the software not to work with any connected cameras and may cause them to be inaccessible. Keys in the Blue Iris software provide up to one year of service from the initial start date of your license and will need to be renewed before they expire.

Note: Please ensure you are using the most up to date version of Blue Iris. To download the most up to date version of Blue Iris, click here.

Step 1: Click on the settings menu (  ) located in the top-left corner of the interface and select “Settings”.

Step 2: In the bottom left corner of the Blue Iris Settings menu, click on the Upgrade/renew button to renew the key for your license.

Note: The new expiration date will be displayed in the menu and will be good for one year of the initial start date.

When you have purchased or renewed your account you will receive a new code in your email. Once the new key provided is entered into the Activation menu, press the “OK” button.

Settings are automatically backed up to C:\Program Files\Blue Iris5\backup_upgrade_50.reg. Click OK to continue.

How to Enable Two Way Audio Using Blue Iris

If your camera supports two-way audio and you are using it in Blue Iris, two-way audio can be configured directly in the software. Please make sure a compatible microphone is set up and configured on your computer before enabling it in Blue Iris. For more information on how to enable two-way audio using Blue Iris please refer to the information provided below.

Step 1: Log into Blue Iris and access the device.

Step 2: Click on the Blue Iris software settings icon.

Step 3: Click on the Audio tab and enable the Enable audio capture hardware option.

Note: Make sure the proper microphone is selected in the Device dropdown menu.  Use the Gain slider to adjust and test the microphone audio.

Step 4: Select the proper output device for your computer in the Output (Device) dropdown menu and click OK.

Step 5: On the main interface click the speaker option to hear the audio from the device. Then click and hold the microphone icon and speak into the microphone.

Enable Vehicle Analytics

Vehicle analytics uses powerful edge-based capabilities to detect vehicles and filter results based on vehicle color and body type.

How it Works

Vehicle analytics leverages the cameras’ powerful onboard processing capabilities to detect the presence of, and analyze the properties of vehicles as they appear in the frame. As vehicles are detected, high-resolution images are taken and analyzed for vehicle objects. Selected images are then sent to Verkada’s cloud-based Command platform, where users can filter historical clips for vehicles and search for specific vehicles by time, date, body type, and color.

All Verkada cameras perform vehicle detection (as outlined above) out of the box. However, to enable more complex analytics, such as the ability to search for vehicles by color and body type, vehicle analytics must be turned on.

Verkada’s people and vehicle search features use advanced computer vision functionality to identify people and vehicles within the camera’s field of view and quickly find relevant events.

The Verkada Command UI enables instant video replay previews and trajectory viewing. Trajectory analysis features offers possibilities for searching events, reduces the number of missed detections, improves the detection distance, and reduces duplicates.

Required. You must have Site Viewer and Site Admin access to view the Motion tab under the camera feed. Learn more about Roles and Permissions for Cameras.

You can view people and vehicles detected by a Verkada camera within historical footage.

1.In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

2.Select a camera to view its feed.

3.At the top, click Motion.

4.To the right, click Show Pathsto toggle on/off the feature.

5.(Optional) Make a selection on the video player grid to search for motion in the area.

6.(Optional) Use the People, Vehicle, and Date filters for more granular searches

7.Hovering over a thumbnail with the people or vehicle filters selected gives a count of the people/vehicles in the frame with an option to archive the clip. By hovering over the previews, you can see tracks for the individual.

8.Click the thumbnail to be taken to the exact time in the recorded footage.

Note: People and/or vehicles will only be available if these objects were detected in the camera frame.

View people trajectories (paths)

The people trajectories feature visualizes the paths of people moving through the scene to show the trajectories of each detected person.

Trajectories drastically improve the motion event recall and enable the cameras to recognize people and vehicles at a further distance. For a detailed breakdown of the detection ranges of each model, see the People Analytics Guide.

1.In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

2.Select a camera to view its feed.

3.At the top, click Motion.

4.(Optional) Make a selection on the video player grid to search for motion in the area.

To receive alerts for People of Interest, you need to set up alert based on your events.

People of Interest replaced Profiles on June 8, 2023. Profiles created before this date that were not set as People of Interest are not automatically send People of Interest alerts.

1.In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

2.Select a camera and go to the camera’s Settings page.

3.Scroll down to the Analytics section and toggle on Occupancy Trends.

4.Return to the camera’s main page and select the Analytics tab (displayed below the camera’s live feed).

5.Click Add lines to open the wizard.

6.Click and drag the camera view to draw a line across the screen. You can draw multiple lines, though data from all lines are aggregated.

7.Click one of the dropdown menus (displayed near the arrow heads) to change how users crossing in that direction are counted. The Ignore option indicates that users crossing this direction are not counted by the Occupancy Trends feature.

8.After you set up the lines for the camera’s view, click Save.

You can export Occupancy Trends results as a .csv file.

1.Go to the Analytics tab.

2.At the top right, click Downloadto automatically download your occupancy trends results.

Verkada’s motion display feature offers two ways to see live motion on your site’s floor plans in real-time.

Set up motion detection

With motion detection, the camera’s field of view pulses when motion is seen. This happens in real-time.

1.In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Floorplans.

2.Select the building and floor plan you want to monitor.

3.On Floorplans, at the bottom right, click Motion Detection.
