1.Search and download the latest version of the Swann Security app using the Play Store® app on your phone.

Panes

Panes give you access to the majority of the SW. exactly which panes you will see depends on your task, for example on whether you are viewing live video on the Live tab or recorded video on the Playback tab.

Panes can be minimized to icons. This helps save space, and enables a better overview of the panes you use. You minimize a pane by clicking the ‘▲’ in the pane’s title bar. When you need to use a pane which you have previously minimized, simply click the corresponding icon in the top left corner of the SW.

Installing the iCMS Pro SW

The SW must be installed on your computer before you are able to use it.

Typically, you copy the executive file from the CD that is carried with device, and then install the file on your computer.

Installation from CD

To install the iCMS Pro SW from a CD, do the following:

Verify that your computer meets the iCMS Pro SW system requirements.
Insert the surveillance system software CD, wait for a short while, then click the iCMS Pro

installation icon.

Tip: Depending on your security settings, you may receive one or more security warnings when clicking the link (Do you want to run or save this file? Do you want to run this software? or similar; exact wording depends on your browser version). When this is the case, accept the security warnings (by clicking the Run button or similar; exact button names depend on your browser version).

When the installation wizard starts, click ‘Next’ to continue the installation and follow the steps in the installation wizard.
The wizard will suggest an installation path. Normally, you can simply go ahead and use the suggested installation path
Click ‘Next’ buttons and waiting progress of installation.
Complete.

Logging In to the iCMS Pro SW

To log in to the SW, do the following:

Double-click iCMS Pro shortcut on your desktop. If no iCMS Pro desktop shortcut is available, select the iCMS Pro from Windows’ Start menu (exactly how you do this is determined by where and how you have installed the iCMS Pro on your computer, but you would typically select Start > All Programs > iCMS Pro > iCMS Pro).
A splash screen is displayed while the iCMS Pro loads; this typically takes a few seconds only.

3. The SW login window appears:

After a short wait, the iCMS Pro window will open. The iCMS Pro window has three tabs: Live, Playback and Setup.

The Live tab is used for viewing live video, the Playback tab is used for browsing recorded video on PC or each device remotely, and the Setup tab is used for configuring the iCMS Pro SW. Depending on your user rights, you may not be able to access all three tabs.

Selecting Language

In the iCMS Pro SW, you are often able to select between different language versions.

Click the Options button in the right side of the iCMS Pro top bar.

In the Options dialog, select Language, then the required language.
The iCMS Pro SW must be restarted in order for the change to take effect: Close your

SW, then log in again to use the new language version.

Views Explained

The way in which video from one or more cameras are displayed in the iCMS Pro SW is called a view.

A view may contain video from up to 64 cameras, depending on the surveillance system to which you connect. The iCMS Pro SW can handle an unlimited number of views, allowing you to switch between video from various collections of cameras.

The illustration to the right provides an example of a iCMS Pro displaying a view, in this case with video from 10 different cameras (view is highlighted in red frame).

In order to help you maintain an easy overview when you navigate between various views in your iCMS Pro SW, all views are placed in folders called groups. A group can contain any number of views and, if required, subgroups.

Difference between Private and Shared Views

Views can be private or shared:

Private views can only be accessed by the user who created them.
Shared views allow many users to share the same views.

You create and manage views on the iCMS Pro Setup tab.

Creating Private Views

Views are created on the iCMS Pro Setup tab.

To create your first private view, you first create a group under the Setup tab’s Private top-level folder, then create the required view within the group.

Creating a Group

To create a group under the Private top-level folder, do the following on the Setup tab:

In the Setup tab’s Views pane, select the Private top-level folder.

Click the Create New Group button:

A new group is created. The new group is simply named New Group.

Overwrite the default name New Group with a group name of your choice.

You are now able to create a view within the group.

Creating a View within the Group

To create a view in a group, do the following:

1. In the Setup tab’s Views pane, make sure the group in which you want to create the

view is selected.

2. Click the Create View button:

Select the required layout for your new view. You are able to select layouts for displaying up to 64 (8×8) cameras in a single view.
A new view is created under the group you selected. The new view carries the default name New View.

To create a group under a shared top-level folder, do the following on the Setup tab:

1. In the Setup tab’s Views pane, select the Shared top-level folder (in this example, the

required folder is simply called Shared).

2. Click the Create Group button:

You are now able to create a view within the group.

To create a view in a group, do the following:

IMPORTANT: Deleting a group will delete all views and any subgroups within the group as well.

To delete a view or group, do the following on the Setup tab:

Select the required view or group in the Views pane.
Click the Delete button:

You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the selected view or group.

How to Add Content to Views

Once you have created views, you are able to add content to the views. Content can be video from individual cameras or devices, carousels for viewing images from alternating cameras in a single view position.

Adding Individual Cameras

To add a camera to a view, do the following:

In the Setup tab’s Views pane, select the required view. When you select a view, the layout of the selected view is outlined in the main section of the iCMS Pro window.

In the Setup tab’s System Overview pane, click the plus sign(+) next to Cameras, then the

plus sign next to the required server to view a list of available cameras.

Select the required camera from the list, and drag the camera to the required position in the view. When you have dragged a camera to a position in the view, an image from the camera will—provided a connection can be established—appear in the selected position. If a connection cannot be established, for example if the surveillance system’s is not on recording mode, the name of the camera will be displayed in the selected position.
Repeat for each camera required in the view.

Tip: If you want to use all of the cameras under a server, you may simply drag the required server link to the view; this will automatically place all of the server’s cameras in the view from the selected position onwards. Make sure a sufficient number of positions are available in the view.

Tip: You can easily change which cameras are included in your view: clear an individual camera position by right clicking the remove button, then drag another camera to the cleared position, or simply overwrite a position by dragging a different camera to the position.

Adjusting View Properties

In the Setup tab’s view Properties pane, you are able to adjust osd and camera view.

Maintain Image Aspect Ratio

If the check box is selected, images will not be stretched to fit the size of the camera position.

Rather, images will be displayed with the aspect ratio (height/width relationship) with which they have been recorded.

When viewing images with their original aspect ratio, you may see horizontal or vertical black bars appearing around the images from some cameras.

If the check box is cleared, images will be stretched to fit the position in the view; this may lead to slightly distorted images, but you will avoid any black bars appearing around the images.

OSD settings (All views)

Show title bar: Displays a title bar located in the top of each camera position. The title bar helpsusers quickly identify camera name, Recording Status and live indicator.

Show indicator: Displays a blinking green indicator in the title bar when displayed on the Live tab. The indicator changes state every time a new image is received from the camera, an effect which makes it easy to see that video is live. Often, it is evident from the video itself that it is live, but the live indicator can be advantageous at times when not much is happening in the camera’s area of view.

Show icon: Displays a camera icon in the top of each camera.

Show name: Displays a camera name in the top of each camera.

Show resolution: Displays the current image resolution at the bottom of each camera.

Show date and time: Displays the current date and time at the bottom of each camera.

Adding Carousels

A carousel is used for displaying images from several cameras, one after the other, in a single view position. You are able to specify which cameras to include in the carousel as well as the interval between camera changes.

On the setup tab, drag the System Overview pane’s Carousel to the required position in the view. When you release the mouse button over the required position, the Carousel Setup window opens.
In the Carousel Setup window, specify which cameras to include in the carousel by selecting required cameras in the left part of the window, then clicking the Add button to add the selected cameras to the list in the right part of the window.

If required, move cameras up and down in the list to determine the sequence in which

cameras will appear in the carousel.

Define the amount of time for which each camera should be displayed in the carousel;

either with a common default, or individually for each camera.

Click OK to close the Carousel Setup window.

Carousel indicator will be positioned at right bottoms at the selected channel.

Adding Static Images

Static images can be used in views for a variety of purposes: for company logos, for including floor plans or maps in the view, for including photos of wanted persons, etc.

On the setup tab, drag the System Overview pane’s Image item to the required position in the view.

Release the mouse button over the required position. When you release the mouse button, you are able to select the required static image file.

Further Configuration

The Options Dialog

The Options dialog lets you control the language selection, position of navigator, timeline for playback and the path for snapshot & Backup.

You access the Options dialog by clicking the Options button in the top right corner of the Smart Client window.

Language Options

In the iCMS Pro SW, you are often able to select between different language versions.

In the Application Options dialog, select the Language tab, then the required language.
The SW must be restarted in order for the change to take effect: Close your SW, then log in again to use the new language version.

Application Options

The Options dialog’s Application tab lets you customize the general behavior and look of your

SW.

Information: display the version of iCMS Pro SW.

Application minimization: If you select Minimized button the SW will be positioned on window task bar as icon.

Application maximization: Select how the SW should react when you click the Maximize button in the top right corner. If you select Maximize to full screen, the SW will cover any Windows task bar on your screen when maximized.

Quit: stop to run the iCMS Pro SW.

Viewing Live Video

You view live video on the iCMS Pro Live tab. When you select the iCMS Pro Live tab, the SW will connect to the surveillance system server, and display live images from the cameras in the selected view.

Tip: The SW supports use of multiple windows. This is especially useful if your computer has more than one physical display attached.

Live Video Is Not Necessarily Recorded

Even though you can see live video from a given camera, the video stream from the camera is not necessarily being recorded.

This is actually one of the benefits of an IP-based digital surveillance system: Unlike old-style analog surveillance systems, where everything was usually recorded on a tape regardless whether it was relevant or not, an IP-based digital surveillance system allows much more targeted recording.

Targeted recording frees security personnel, investigators, etc. from having to go through seemingly endless amounts of recordings in order to find a particular incident. Instead, the reduced amount of recordings..

Basically, live video streams from cameras pass through the surveillance system server. When required, the video stream is saved (recorded) on the server; when not required, the video stream is simply discarded. Video streams are typically saved on the server (recorded) either

• According to a schedule (example: every morning from 10.00 to 11.30)

– or/and –

• Whenever the surveillance system detects special events (examples: motion generated by a person entering a room; a sensor registering that a window is being opened; input from users).

The surveillance system server’s recording settings are determined by your surveillance system administrator. However, as a iCMS Pro SW user, you can also start recording while viewing live video.

Tip: When viewing live video on the iCMS Pro Live tab, you can quickly verify whether the video stream from a camera is being recorded: Look at the yellow bar immediately above the camera’s images. If the video stream from the camera is being recorded, the bar will display Rec. Note that you may occasionally see the Recording letters for short periods only. This is because cameras may have been configured to record only when there is motion, when a door is open, or similar, which can lead to many short periods of recordings.

Views and their Content

You are basically able to select a view for display on the Live tab as below.

Camera Names and Colored Indicators

The display item can be selected on ‘View Properties’ of Setup Pane.

The bar displays the name of the camera as well as the name of the device to which the camera is connected.

Each bar will display Live when live images are displayed, Rec if video from the camera in question is being recorded.

Carousel Positions

You can enlarge a carousel by double-clicking the carousel position.

Enlarging Camera Positions

To enlarge images from a particular camera in a view, double-click the camera position. To return to normal view, simply double-click the blue image bar again.

Handling Sound Notifications

Your SW may have been configured to notify you with a sound notification when:

Events related to one or more specific cameras occur

Audio (Microphones)

The SW supports incoming audio: From the SW you can listen to live recordings from microphones attached to cameras.

You handle audio in the Live tab’s Audio pane.

Listening

To listen to live audio, select the required microphone from the Audio In list.

Audio when Camera is in Playback Mode

If the selected camera is in playback mode, you will hear any recorded audio from that camera’s default microphone and, if supported, speaker. The Live tab’s Audio pane will in that case have no function.

Digital Zoom

The right clicks of mouse lets you use digital zoom on images from any camera displayed in the view. Your use of digital zoom will not affect any recording of the images; any recording will still take place in the camera’s regular format. If you later wish to browse the recordings, you can use

digital zoom with same action (mouse right click).

When digital zoom is enabled, you will see a Zoom ratio in the top right corner of each of the view’s camera positions. Once you zoom in on an area of an image, you can move the other area by simply dragging of mouse.

Zoom with Mouse Wheel

you are able to zoom in and out using the scroll wheel on your mouse, provided your mouse is equipped with a scroll wheel.

Change the zoom ratio up to 10x by mouse wheel scroll.

Using PTZ

If your views contain PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) cameras, you can control the PTZ cameras with the Live tab’s PTZ Control pane.

PTZ Navigation Buttons

Use the navigation buttons in the PTZ Control pane to move the selected PTZ camera.

The Arrow buttons let you move the position of camera view.

The item of ‘ZOOM’, ‘FOCUS’ and ‘Iris’ let user can control the item manually.

POSITION STEP is a distance during Pan/ Tilt works.

PTZ Preset Positions

You can set the preset of PTZ camera from PTZ control panel.

If preset positions have been defined for the selected PTZ camera already, you are able to select such positions.

To set preset.

Move the PTZ view point by navigator arrow.
Select any number for preset numbering.
Press [SET] button to save the position.

To run preset.

Select one of preset number on the list.
Press [Goto] button, PTZ camera view will move to predefined position.

Manually Activating Output

If external outputs have been defined on your surveillance system, for example for switching on lights or sounding a siren, such output can be activated from the iCMS Pro Live tab.

Select the required output in the Alarm Out pane. Then click the Active button

Or user can deactivate the alarm out from the active state of Alarm out by [Inactive] button.

Viewing Recorded Video

You view recorded video on the iCMS Pro Playback tab.

When you select the Playback tab, the SW will display recording time table and Playback control panel.

You can follow below steps to start playback.

1. Select a Playback Tab.

Select a device from the recording time table.
Select a time for starting at Play control panel or select a start point from recording table.

*The time line can be expanded up to 5 minute term when left click of mouse on time label. Right click of the mouse will compress the time line.

Timeline Browser

The timeline browser displays an overview of periods with recordings from each devices displayed in your current view.

The number of timelines displayed in the timeline browser reflects the number of cameras of device. Cameras with an audio device attached are represented by a double timeline: a timeline displaying periods with video recordings and a timeline displaying periods with audio recordings. Up to 16 cameras can be displayed with audio timelines. If 16 cameras with associated audio are included in the view

To browse recordings using the timeline browser, click inside the timeline browser, and move your mouse right or left without releasing the mouse button or just click it

Green: Recording period with continuous

Red : Recording period with Alarm detection.

Blue : Recording period with motion

Yellow: Recording period with pre buffered recording period.

Gray : Recording period with Audio.

Tip: You can quickly change the timeline browser’s time span by pressing the left click of mouse.

The area in the upper part of the Time Navigation pane shows the time and date of the recordings viewed.

The Time Navigation pane’s brows buttons lets you manually navigate through recordings from the devices (DVR/ IP camera data on PC server).

First image : move to the first image in the data base for selected device

Previous image: move to the image just before the one currently viewed.

Play Reverse: Playback recordings backwards in time.

Stop: stop / pause to playback the image.

Last image: move to the last image in the data base for selected device.

Speed controller of playback

You can slide the indicator to control the speed of playback during play the image.

From 1/64X(slowest)~ 64X(fastest).

Digital Zoom

Just like on the live view, the right clicks of mouse lets you use digital zoom on images from any camera displayed during playback.

Your use of digital zoom will not affect any recording of the images; any recording will still take place in the camera’s regular format.

What is the difference between optical and digital zoom?

With optical zoom, a camera’s lens elements physically move to provide the required angle of view. You cannot use optical zoom when viewing recorded video, simply because you cannot move the camera’s lens retroactively. With digital zoom, the required portion of an image is enlarged by cropping the image and then resizing it back to the pixel size of the original image—a process called interpolation. Digital zoom thus simulates optical zoom, but the digitally zoomed portion will have a lower quality than the original image. Digital zoom works equally well on live and recorded video.

Exporting Single Images

You are able to export single still images from selected cameras. Exported images can then be saved (as bitmap/Jpg/Png images) into PC, You can only export a single image from a single camera at a time.

To export:

Select the required view.
Right-click inside the required camera position; you now get access to the menu.
In the menu, select ‘snapshot’. You can now export the file as image.

Printing Evidence

In playback screen, you are able to print recorded images.

Select the required camera in the view.

Right-click inside the required camera position.

In the menu, select ‘Print’, you can print the image on local or network print

Exporting in AVI and Still image

Select the iCMS Pro Playback tab.

In the Playback tab’s Backup pane, specify when the period to be covered by the export should start. You do this by typing the required date in the first Start Time field and the time in the second field.

Local Path : If you select local Path, you are able to specify a path yourself.

The backup file will be saved in the path you specify.

You can also select the path on network shared folder in company.

Media : If you select media, you are able to backup the file on DVD of PC.

Click the Start backup button to begin the backup procedure. The status bar in the upper part of the backup dialog will display the status of the backup:

Frequently Asked Questions about Exporting

FAQ: Can I export audio too? When backup in the AVI. you are—when the surveillance system supports audio—able to include audio recorded by microphones in the backup.. When backup in the JPEG format, you cannot include audio.

Full Screen Viewing

To view your iCMS Pro in full screen mode, click the Full Screen button near the middle of the

iCMS top bar.

In full screen mode, the SW is displayed without the top bar, without any of the panes normally located in the left side of the iCMS Pro, and without any Windows taskbar.

Full screen mode is available when using the Live and Playback tabs, but not when using the Setup tab.

To leave full screen mode and return to normal mode, press ESC or select restore screen after right click of mouse..

Using Multiple Windows

The iCMS Pro supports use of multiple windows. This is especially useful if your computer has more than one physical display attached.

You can send live views to separate displays from the iCMS Pro’s View pane in Live tab.

Sending a View to Secondary Display

Sending a view to a Secondary Display will show the view in a full-screen window on another physical display (if available).

The other physical display will only show the selected view, none of the Live or Playback tab’s other features, and it can only show one view at a time.

To send a view to a Secondary Display, do the following:

In the Live or Playback tab’s Views pane, right-click the required view. This will bring up a menu.

Or select the multi monitor icon on Top bar.

In the menu, select Multi Monitor > Display2. If more than one secondary display is

available, they will be numbered.

Sending a channel to a Floating Window

Sending a channel to a Floating Window will show the camera in a small separate window on your main display.

The illustration to the right provides an example of a channel sent to a floating window. Note that the main iCMS Pro window is immediately available behind the floating window.

The floating window will only show the selected camera. You can use any number of floating windows.

You are able to change the size of a floating window to suit your needs.

To send a channel to a Floating Window, do the following:

In the Views pane, right-click the required channel. This will bring

up a menu.

In the menu, select Float View.

Closing Separate Windows

To close a separate view window,

How do I use Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge to connect to my CCTV equipment on Windows 10 & 11?

There are some IP camera and NVR models that do not work well when you try to connect to them in modern web browsers (Internet Explorer Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.), as they use firmware designed for use on the Internet Explorer engine.

Now that IE11 is being retired from Windows completely, the only way to access these devices will be to use a modern browser that can open webpages as if they were IE. If you’re using a Windows 10 or 11 PC, then the easiest option here is to use Microsoft Edge.

The following steps will show you how to enable IE mode in Edge and use this to load any necessary web pages:

Did you know that…

You can quickly add the URLs / IP addresses of other cameras that require IE to a list that opens in IE mode automatically.

To do so, just go back to:

Settings and more (Alt + F) → Settings → Default Browser

And click the Add button beside Internet Explorer mode pages.

This will bring up a popup in which you can enter each URL – click Add again to add it to the list.

Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) Being Retired on June 15th 2022 – How Will I Access My Hikvision System?

As we have been aware for many years, Windows has been slowly running down support for Internet Explorer. Last year they confirmed that IE11 would be completely retired from Windows 10 on June 15th 2022, after this date IE11 desktop application will no longer work and users will be redirected to use Edge.

Lots of users will also be aware that Hikvision products have been reliant on IE for browser access for many years, even with our and other users’ repeated requests for a complete solution for Hikvision products to work in modern browsers the solution has been slow coming.

With the June 15th date fast approaching Hikvision has released the attached documents that explain 3 main methods for browser access going forward and which models support which method, the methods are listed below:

1. Non-plug-in service (For modern browser access, not all models support this method)

2. Local service (Plug-in required)

3. IE compatibility mode on Edge browser

Some of the oldest Hikvision models may not support any of the above methods, if that is the case then you will have to use Hikvision’s desktop VMS software – iVMS-4200 – to access your Hikvision devices.

This is not the simple, clean solution we were hoping for from Hikvision and we are sure there will be issues discovered along the way, but it is a first step and hopefully means that all Hikvision users will have some way to access their systems going forward.

NOTE: The instruction laid out in this article is applicable to the following recorders:

You can upgrade the firmware of your recorder in two different ways:

Automatically over a network, connected by an Ethernet cable (included). Click here for information on how to automatically upgrade firmware.
Manually by downloading the firmware into your computer and uploading it using a USB flash drive onto your recorder.

IMPORTANT: It is recommended to use automatic upgrade unless directed by technical support to perform a manual upgrade. Technical support will provide you with a .bin file for manual firmware upgrade. Do not power off the DVR during a firmware upgrade.

Prerequisites:

Ensure your DVR system is connected to a network using the included Ethernet cable.
Save the .bin file in the root folder of a USB flash drive (not included)‎,‎ and connect the USB flash drive to a USB port on your DVR.

To manually upgrade the DVR firmware

For this procedure, you need (1) the latest firmware for your recorder, (2) a formatted and empty USB flash drive, (3) access to a computer with internet connection, and (4) a valid email address.

To upgrade your recorder to the latest firmware, call our Technical Support at 1-888-425-6739 and request for your recorder’s latest firmware. When calling, make sure you have your recorder’s the correct model number and a valid email address at hand. We will send the firmware download link via email. NOTE: The download link will expire in a specified period of time.
Next, format your empty USB flash drive using your recorder. IMPORTANT: We highly recommend that you format your USB flash drive using your recorder.
Once you have successfully formatted your USB flash drive, remove it and insert it into your computer’s USB port and download the firmware we sent via email.
Verify that you have the correct firmware, then remove the USB flash drive from your computer, and insert it back into one of the USB ports on your recorder.
In the taskbar, click the Main Menu icon (), and then click Advanced > Maintenance.
In the Maintenance tab, click Firmware Upgrade.
Select the .bin file, and then click OK.
Click OK on the confirmation window.
Allow 5-10 minutes for the system to upgrade. The DVR will automatically restart when the firmware upgrade is complete.

How to upgrade the firmware of Lorex Smart Home Security Center

There are two ways of upgrading the firmware of your Lorex Smart Home Security Center (LSHSC): manually or via cloud.

Manual Upgrade

For this procedure, you need (1) the latest firmware for your LSHSC, (2) a formatted and empty USB flash drive, (3) access to a computer, and (4) a valid email address.

Step 1. To upgrade your recorder to the latest firmware, call our Technical Support at 1-888-425-6739 and request for your LSHSC ‘s latest firmware. When calling, make sure you have your valid email address at hand. We will send the firmware download link via email. NOTE: The download link will expire in a specified period of time.

Step 2. Next, format your empty USB flash drive to FAT 32.

Step 3. Using a computer, download the correct firmware to your formatted USB flash drive. Don’t unzip the file.

Step 4. Verify that you have the correct firmware, then remove the USB flash drive from your computer and insert it at the back USB port on your LSHSC.

Step 5. Then watch out for pop up message on your LSHSC: “New firmware available.” Tap the Update button to the upgrade the firmware.

Step 6. Verify that the firmware has been successfully updated.

Congratulations! You have manually updated the firmware of your Lorex Smart Home Security Center.

Cloud Upgrade

For this procedure, your LSHSC must be connected to the internet during the upgrade.

Step 1. Go to Home Screen > Device Settings > Device Info.

Step 2. Under Device Info, tap Software Version.

Step 3. Tap Update.

Step 4. Verify that the firmware has been successfully updated.

Congratulations! You have successfully updated the firmware of your Lorex Smart Home Security Center.

How to check your Lorex devices for firmware updates

In this article, we will walk you through the process of checking your Lorex devices for available firmware updates. If there is an available update for your device, we highly encourage you to update the firmware on your device. To do this, you must have access to the internet. To manually update the firmware, please check our guide here.

IMPORTANT: If you are unable to verify the status of your device’s firmware, please call our Technical Support at 1-888-425-6739.

Recorder

To check if you have the latest firmware on your recorder, please follow these steps:

Step 1. Go to Main Menu > Settings > System > Upgrade.

Step 2. In the Upgrade settings, click Check for Updates.

Step 3. If there is an available update for your recorder, please proceed with upgrading your firmware. If not, you will get a message that you have the latest firmware.

IMPORTANT: To receive automatic updates, make sure the box is checked next to Automatically Check for Updates, then click OK.

Lorex Home App

To check if you have the latest firmare on your Lorex Home app, please follow these steps:

Step 1. Launch the Lorex Home app.

Step 2. Tap more or the three dots to go to Device Settings.

Step 3. Tap Firmware.

Step 4. If there is an available update, please proceed with upgrading your firmware. If there is no new firmware available, the Latest version will just be empty.

DVR / NVR – How to manually upgrade the firmware of your recorder

IMPORTANT: All Lorex firmware updates are free of charge.

There are two ways of upgrading the firmware of your recorder: USB Upgrade and Cloud Upgrade.

Part 1 – USB Upgrade

Step 1. To upgrade your recorder to the latest firmware, call our Technical Support at 1-888-425-6739 and request for your recorder’s latest firmware. When calling, make sure you have your recorder’s the correct model number and a valid email address at hand. We will send the firmware download link via email. NOTE: The download link will expire in a specified period of time.

Step 3. Once you have successfully formatted your USB flash drive, remove it and insert it into your computer’s USB port and download the firmware we sent via email.

Step 4. Verify that you have the correct firmware, then remove the USB flash drive from your computer, and insert it back into one of the USB ports on your recorder.

Step 5. On your recorder, go to Main Menu > Settings > System > Upgrade.

Step 6. In the Upgrade settings, click USB Upgrade.

Step 7. In the popup window, select the firmware that you have previously downloaded for your recorder.

NOTE: Make sure to select the file with .bin extension. See image below.

Step 8. Then, at the bottom of the screen, click Start to begin the upgrade.

WARNING: Please DO NOT turn off the power during the firmware upgrade. Wait until the unit reboots and display the new live view.

Congratulations! You have successfully updated the firmware of your recorder.

Part 2 – Cloud Upgrade

To upgrade your recorder’s firmware via Cloud Upgrade, it is necessary to connect the recorder to your network.

Step 1. Go to Main Menu > Settings > System > Upgrade.

Step 2. In the Upgrade settings, click Check for Updates.

Step 3. If there is an available update for your recorder, please proceed with upgrading your firmware. If not, you will get a message that you have the latest firmware.

IMPORTANT: To receive automatic updates, make sure the box is checked next to Automatically Check for Updates, then click OK.

DVR / NVR – How to format your USB flash drive on your recorder

To make sure you can transfer files to or from your recorder, it is essential that you first format your USB flash drive on the recorder before moving any file.

Step 1. Insert your USB flash drive into one of the USB ports on your recorder.

Step 2. On your recorder, go to Main Menu > Settings > System > Config Backup.

Step 3. At the top of the screen, select the USB flash drive (A) that you wish to format, then at the bottom of the screen, click Format (B) to open the popup window.

Step 4. In the popup window, select a format mode. In this procedure, I am selecting FAT32 as a format mode.

Step 5. Then, click OK to start the formatting.

Step 6. Once formatting is complete, click Yes to exit the popup window.

Congratulations! You have successfully formatted your USB flash drive. You are now ready to transfer files to or from your recorder.

Once installed, open the Swann Security program and follow the steps below:

Set a password – to protect you from anyone who wants to view your unit on your computer.
Set a security question – will be used when you forgot the password your set.
Login – just type in the password you’ve set earlier. Username is admin.
Add device
1. Click the Home icon (top-left) then choose Device Management
2. Click the plus (+) icon (top-right)
3. Enter your recorder’s details:
  1. Device Name:
  2. Login Type: P2PID
  3. P2PID: <20-character alphanumeric code; found at the top of your recorder>
  4. Protocol: Private
  5. Media Port: 9000
  6. User Name:
  7. Password:
4. Click Add
Status – Online – under Status column, a green box will appear to indicate that the recorder is online. If not, double check the connection to your internet or the username and password you entered.
Stream – click the Mainview icon (monitor with 4-boxes) at the top or when you click the Home icon.
1. Click the arrow beside ‘root’ to expand
2. Once you see your device, either click and drag the device name to any boxes at the right OR click and drag a specific camera to load.

Swann Security VMX access (Windows only)

NOTE 1: This guide is for the following recorders with a similar interface: DVRx-4680, 4680XN, 5680X, 5680XN. It is NOT suitable for standalone cloud storage cameras.

NOTE 2: Support for Swann Security VMX is limited to installation and P2P connection setup only. Advanced network setup and port forwarding are not supported.

Installing the software:

Download the Swann Security VMX software for Windows here and install the app as per usual and then follow the steps below to configure and add your device or watch this clip for a complete guide. Click here to check the file version history.

Once installed, open the Swann Security VMX program and follow the steps below:

Login – default username and password is admin & admin then click Sign in
Add device
- For remote access setup (viewing your cameras when you are not at the location), click HERE
- For local access setup (viewing your cameras when your computer is at the same network as the recorder), it can be added automatically or choose Add devices manually then click OK. The next prompt will appear, click Yes then continue to the next step
Once logged in, the software interface will open.
Add device
1. Click the Device Manager icon (1). Your Swann device can be added automatically using the IPV4/IPV6 Search option if the PC running the VMX software is on the same network. Note: To manually add your Swann device, proceed to step 4 below.
2. Select the discovered device and click Add and then Save.
3. The device will added to the application but will remain disconnected. Select the newly added device again (6) and click on the Edit (7) option to update the settings. Give friendly to your Swann device (8) and input the correct credentials (8). Click OK.
4. Click Manual Add (9) and enter your recorder’s details:
  1. Device Name:
  2. Login Type: IP
  3. IP: IP address of you device (can be found on your router or network switch management interface)
  4. Media Port: 9000
  5. User Name:
  6. Password:
  7. Click Save And Continue
Confirm Status – under the Connect column, a Connected status will appear to indicate that the recorder is online. If not, double check the connection to your internet or the username and password you entered.
Stream – click the Home icon at the top and then select Live View.
Select the desired View (14) based on the number of cameras you have or your preferred layout.
1. To view a specific camera on the list (15) to a window on the live view area, click and drag the channel name and drop into the desired area (A, B, C, D, E, or F).
2. Or select the desired window on the live view area and then double click the channel name (15) to load the camera.

Remote access setup

Your recorder must be paired to a Swann Security account first

In the Home screen, click the Device Manager icon
Click the Manual Add button at the bottom

In the Add Device screen, read the following:

Device Name: Enter a name the device
Login Type: set it to P2PID
Port: 9000
P2PID: Enter the UID of the DVR
Check your email and enter the credentials in the P2PUserName and P2PPassword fields
UserName: Enter the DVR’s username
Password: Enter the DVR’s password

Click the OK button.

If you don’t have the P2PUserName and P2PPassword, contact our Technical Support and make sure to provide your recorder’s UID or MAC address.

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the Login interface, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Recovery field. Letters are in UPPERCASE with the colons (e.g BC:51:FE:11:22:33).

Click Unlock once done. A message will appear on-screen stating that your password has been reset. Click OK to continue.

Once this window appears, enter your preferred password (minimum of 6 characters).

You must enter an email address below so the next time you need to reset your password, the MAC address will be sent to your email; otherwise, you can write down your MAC address somewhere safe.

Click FINISH once done.

Notes

You will need to re-enter a new password every time you reset the password. The reset code CANNOT be used to login to the recorder nor can it be used for remote access.

How to manually update my recorder?

Download the firmware

If you have not acquired the firmware yet, download it from this article (click HERE) and save it to your flash drive (do not put it in a folder). We recommend a flash drive capacity of 32GB or smaller.

Update

Insert the flash drive into your DVR.
Access Menu and go to Advanced (left) then Maintain (top).
Click on Upgrade.

A new window will open which shows the files in your flash drive. Select the firmware you downloaded then click on OK.NOTE: Filename varies per model. Use the firmware sent to you if there’s any.

A confirmation window will appear, click on OK to continue.

The update will begin; do not interrupt it until the recorder has completed the update.

To update your system over-the-air (OTA), you must make sure your recorder is connected to a modem or router with an internet connection. If you just connected it, give a minute or two before you proceed.

Once that’s done, do the following:

Access your recorder’s MENU then to go ADVANCE > AUTO UPGRADE.
Click Check Now.
If there’s an update available, read the changes to keep you posted what the update is all about, then click OK.
Read carefully all prompts that might appear and follow succeeding instructions properly.

To check what is your current firmware, access the NVR’s Menu then go to System > Information and look for the Software Version. For a NVR16-8580, the latest Software Version is v8.1.0-20220419

If you are unable to use the automatic update service to update the recorder, you can use the following procedure to update manually.

Prepare the following:

Computer with internet connection
USB flash drive (preferably 32GB or below)
Mouse and monitor connected to the NVR

Quick install steps

Download the correct image file:

Prepare a FAT32 flash drive or USB – it needs to be on FAT32 for it to be read; there is no need for an external HDD as the files are small.
Download the firmware file HERE and save it to your flash drive.
Plugin the flash drive and mouse to any of the available USB ports of the NVR (front or back).

Apply the firmware to the recorder:

1. Access the Menu and go to Advanced > Maintain then click on Update.
2. Select the file you downloaded from “Step no. 2” and click OK.
  - Tip: If the recorder is unable to read the copied files but the drive is properly recognized, click the Format option on this screen and copy the firmware file again.
3. A confirmation window will appear, click on OK again.
4. NVR will start to update. Make sure NOT to unplug the USB or turn off the NVR while it is updating.
5. The NVR will reboot automatically to apply the new firmware. Do NOT power cycle the NVR manually.

Firmware update for V8 recorders via Swann Security VMS (Windows)

Start by downloading the Homesafe Config Tool software (Windows only) from the link below.

HomeSafe Config Tool (Windows)

Locate the HomeSafe Config Tool installer file in the computer and run it by double-clicking it. In some instances, you may have to run the program as an administrator. Right-click on the HomeSafe Config Tool installer file and select Run as administrator.

Follow the prompts to install the HomeSafe Config Tool until you hit Finish.

Next, locate the HomeSafe Config Tool icon on the desktop. Open or right-click on the icon and select Run as administrator.

Hit the Search button on the top left side and the tool will search your Swann system over the local network. Once found, note down the MAC address of the system. In this example, the MAC address of this system is BC-51-FE-AA-4C-24.

Next, go to your Swann DVR and open the login screen. Then, click the Forgot Password button.

Type the MAC address of your Swann system in the Recovery code field. In this example, type BC:51:FE:AA:4C:24 with the colon symbol. Hit the Enter button, then the Unlock button.

You have now successfully reset the password of your Swann Security DVR/NVR system. Hit the OK button to create a new password.

If the window you see looks similar to the image below, you are in the wizard. The reset code CANNOT be entered in this area. Make sure to setup your new password and click NEXT. You can cancel the rest of the Setup Wizard if you want.

Cancel the wizard then open the right-click menu and select Main Menu (home button) to access the login window.

Once you enter in the “admin” username and reset code, the recorder will reboot. That indicates that the reset is successful and you will be presented with the window to enter a starting password after the recorder has finished rebooting.

Notes

You will need to re-enter a new password every time you reset the password. The reset code CANNOT be used to login to the recorder nor can it be used for remote access.

Before you start, please ensure that the following criteria are met:

Your recorder is connected to the modem/router.
A monitor and mouse must be connected to the recorder.
A Windows computer/laptop connected to the same network as the recorder.

Getting the reset code

Download and install HomeSafe Config Tool
Open the software and you should see your device on the list. If not, click on Search.
Take note of the MAC address. If you can’t see it, scroll to the right.
Resetting the password

Get to the login screen on the recorder.
Click on Forgot Password.
Enter the MAC address that you took and replace ” – ” with ” : “. It should look like this – BC:51:FE:11:22:33
Click on OK once done.

Acquiring the Restoration Code

The restore code on new recorders is first obtained by using the specified software on a Windows computer. There are other methods, but they generally require a higher level of network knowledge than we expect customers to have to operate their system.

The reset code is a unique 12-character string known as the MAC address. The MAC address or MAC Addresss (media access control address) of a device is a unique identifier that is assigned to network interfaces.

If the window you see looks like this, you’re in the wizard. The Restore Code CANNOT be entered in this area. Be sure to set your new password and click NEXT. You can cancel the rest of the Setup Wizard if you want.

Cancel the Wizard and then open the menu with the right mouse button and select the Little House (main menu) to access the login window.

Once you enter the username “admin” and the Restore code, the recorder will reboot. This indicates that the reset was successful and you will be presented with the window to enter a new password after the recorder has finished resetting.

Grades

You will have to re-create a new password each time you reset the password. The reset code CANNOT be used to log into the recorder nor can it be used for remote access.

SwannView Plus Password Reset Follow

Connect the DVR/NVR to a router or modem

Grab the Ethernet cable that came with the unit and connect one end to your DVR/NVR.
Then connect the other end of the cable to your router or modem.

Installing SwannView Plus or iVMS to your computer

Grab your computer (Windows or Mac) and install SwannView Plus. Click the link below for the download the latest version.

2. iVMS-4200 (v2.5.1.7) for Mac
Also, make sure your computer is connected to the same router or modem where the DVR is.
Once everything is done, open the SwannView Plus or iVMS.

Getting the MAC Address

Go to Device Management.
1. If you cannot see this page, click on Tool > Device Management at the top instead.
Click Show Online Devices.
Select your DVR/NVR by clicking at it once.
Check the software version of the DVR. If the unit has a firmware:
1. Build 160801 or later: Take note of the MAC address and follow the next step.
2. Build 160101 to above: MAC address first then follow the next step, if it fails please contact Technical Support via chat.
3. Build before 160101: Please contact Technical Support via chat.

Resetting the password

Go back to your DVR/NVR and pull up the login page again by accessing the MENU.
Type the MAC address you got from the software using lowercase, no dash, and no colons.
e.g. bc51fe810d61
Click on OK once you’re done.
The DVR will then reboot and display the Activation page.
You are then required to enter a new password that you prefer. Please take note of the MAC address you got in case you need to reset the password again; and of course your new password too. Click on OK once you’re done.

This guide is intended for customers to reset their Swann recorder when they have forgotten their password. This guide is for the model series 1580 rev.1*, 4550 rev.1*, 4750, 7300 & 7400 which is up to date. If your recorder is not up to date, this method may not work and you will need to call Swann Tech Support and request assistance from an agent.

Acquiring the reset code

The reset code itself is a unique 12 character string that is generated by the unique hardware identifier of the network interface of the device, known as the MAC address.

To find your recorder’s reset code, connect the recorder to your router (if you have not yet done so) and install and run the software on your computer.

Download the software

The first step is to download the necessary software to your PC. A link to the software is below.

Using the software

The first time you run SwannView Link, you will see this screen.

The software opens to the main page with various information displayed. Click on Add Device. You should see this below:

For Windows

For Mac

Copy down any MAC address starting with the characters ‘EC71DB’ first, then any others. Ignore the colons as they are not necessary.

Entering the reset code

You now use what you wrote down in the previous step to initiate a password reset on the recorder. On the System Login, click Forgot Password.

On the recorder:

The reset code needs to be entered after clicking Forgot Password. Enter it in the Super Password field. Letters are in UPPERCASE without the colons (e.g EC71DB5C4AF5).

If the window you see looks similar to the image below, you are in the wizard. The reset code CANNOT be entered in this area. Make sure to setup your new password and click NEXT. You can cancel the rest of the Setup Wizard if you want.

Cancel the wizard then open the right-click menu and select Main Menu (home button) to access the login window.
